Wiki Page: ProjectWise Managed Workspaces and Plotting

January 24, 2014, 6:59 am

Document Information Document Type: TechNote Product(s): ProjectWise InterPlot Organizer and ProjectWise Explorer Version(s): 08.11.07.XX Original Author: Bentley Technical Support Group Overview ProjectWise handles workspaces using Managed Workspaces and/or Workspace Profiles, and both are supported in ProjectWise InterPlot Organizer. When documents are added to a ProjectWise InterPlot Organizer Plot Set file, ProjectWise InterPlot Organizer reads the Managed Workspace or Workspace Profile assigned to the document in order to access the appropriate workspace. Using Managed Workspaces, you can import an entire MicroStation workspace into ProjectWise. If you prefer to access your workspace from a local or network drive (outside of ProjectWise), you can create a Workspace Profile. ProjectWise InterPlot Organizer's General tab provides controls to specify a User and/or a Project workspace. For ProjectWise InterPlot Organizer to honor a Managed Workspace or Workspace Profile, the string "NONE" must be present in both the User and Project workspace text boxes. The configuration variable IPLOT_PROJECTWISE_INTEGRATION determines if ProjectWise processing will be performed during any of the ProjectWise InterPlot Organizer print type operations (print, preview, export to pdf, etc.). By default, this configuration variable is set to "true." The configuration variable IPLOT_PROJECTWISE_WORKSPACE_INTEGRATION determines if InterPlot honors the Managed Workspace or Workspace Profile associated with the design file in ProjectWise. This ensures that the correct font, style, and other resources are used when producing plots. By default, this configuration variable is set to "true." When set to "true," InterPlot honors the ProjectWise workspace settings. For more information on setting up a Managed Workspace or Workspace Profile, see Managing The DataSource Managing Workspaces in the ProjectWise Administrator Help. Integrating ProjectWise InterPlot Organizer with ProjectWise Explorer It is highly recommended that you install MicroStation prior to installing ProjectWise InterPlot Organizer and ProjectWise Explorer. Once you have all installed all three products you can integrate ProjectWise InterPlot Organizer with ProjectWise Explorer. When ProjectWise InterPlot Organizer is integrated with ProjectWise Explorer, two menu items are added to ProjectWise Explorer's Document menu: Document New Plot Set and Document Add To Plot Set . These two menu items enable you to create and populate ProjectWise InterPlot Organizer plot set files. Invoke the ProjectWise InterPlot Organizer Configure Utility Select Integrate. Select the ProjectWise tab. Select Toggle Integration. Select OK and then exit from the configure utility. In ProjectWise Explorer select Tools - Associations - Programs. Set the "Select an association view:" to User association. Then scroll through the list of programs and select "Organizer Plot Set". Expand it (select the +). Highlight Open and select the right mouse button. Select the "Add Association" button. Select ProjectWise InterPlot Organizer. Also set the "Enable Legacy Integration" to yes. Make sure the IPLOT Engine is set to the version of MicroStation you're running. To do this select Start - All Programs - Bentley - ProjectWise InterPlot Utilities - ProjectWise InterPlot Organizer Configure - Integrate. Highlight the appropriate version of MicroStation and select the "Use as IPLOT Engine" button. If the iDeskTop Integration is not set. Close ProjectWise Explorer. Open the Control Panel and select Add/Remove Programs. Find the listing for ProjectWise Explorer and click Change. When the installer opens, click Next. On the Program Maintenance page, select Modify and click Next. On the Custom Setup page, expand the iDesktop Integration item. The application not integrated will be listed with an X next to it, meaning it is not currently integrated. Click the X next to the application and select the following option, This feature, and all subfeatures, will be installed on the local hard drive. Click Next, then click Install. Wiki Page: V8i Plotting Options [TN]

January 24, 2014, 6:59 am

Applies To Product(s): InterPlot Organizer, MicroStation V8i Version(s): 08.11.05.xx Environment: N/A Area: N/A Subarea: N/A Original Author: Bentley Technical Support Group Overview With the introduction of MicroStation V8i, several printing/plotting options will be available. This technote will explain the different options and answer questions existing users may have. What happened to Batch Print? Batch Print is no longer delivered in the File pull down in MicroStation V8i. The replacement for Batch Print is Print Organizer. Print Organizer is a utility for creating, managing, and publishing project deliverables. Print Organizer is a batch printing utility for printing and reprinting sets of files and models stored in a print set file. The individual files and models are called print definitions and can be grouped in folders and sub-folders. The collection of print definitions is called a print set file. Another advantage of Print Organizer over Batch Print is that each print definition can have its own settings whereas with Batch Print, any changes affect all plots in the batch job. Legacy data created for the Batch Printing utility such as pen tables and job set files are supported in Print Organizer. If you prefer to use Batch Print until you become proficient with Print Organizer you can use the key-in ‘mdl load batchplt'. What happened to PDF Composer? MicroStation PDF Composer was introduced with MicroStation V8 2004 Edition as a tool for users to easily take a set of design files and create a content rich PDF. There is no MicroStation PDF Composer for the V8i release. Since ProjectWise InterPlot Organizer V8i is enabled by a ProjectWise Passport, and all MicroStation SELECT subscribers receive a ProjectWise Passport subscription as a no-charge benefit of SELECT, MicroStation users now have a license to run ProjectWise InterPlot Organizer. ProjectWise InterPlot Organizer V8i has all the features that you had with your MicroStation PDF Composer. Any plot set (IPS), Design Script (PEN) or Settings (SET) files that you have created with MicroStation PDF Composer will continue to work with ProjectWise InterPlot Organizer. Additional format support is provided with ProjectWise InterPlot Organizer to include your PDF and Microsoft Office (DOC, XLS and PPT) documents in plot sets. This enables you to create a complete PDF document of both your plans and specifications. You must load Adobe Acrobat or Ghostscript (free download) on your machine to process Microsoft Office files to PDF using ProjectWise InterPlot Organizer. You are not required to be a ProjectWise or ProjectWise InterPlot Server user to use ProjectWise InterPlot Organizer, but it does integrate well with ProjectWise and you can take advantage of ProjectWise InterPlot Server's added functionality of true network plotting and its digital plan room. MicroStation PDF Composer V8 2004 Edition and V8 XM will continue to be available as users migrate to ProjectWise InterPlot Organizer V8i. You will need to remove MicroStation PDF Composer before loading ProjectWise InterPlot Organizer. What is the difference between Print Organizer and InterPlot Organizer? ProjectWise InterPlot Organizer is state retentive while Print Organizer is not. This means that ProjectWise InterPlot Organizer will remember the settings defined in the plot set such as level settings and reference file settings. Print Organizer does not retain this information and will update the print definitions to the current state of the design file being referenced. There is no guarantee that what you plotted the last time is what you will get on the next plot. The PDFs created from Print Organizer is not as robust as the PDFs created from ProjectWise InterPlot Organizer. Print Organizer allows PDF creation including bookmarks, engineering links, optional content, searchable text and 3d PDFs. In addition, ProjectWise InterPlot Organizer allows intelligent PDF creation including MicroStation Project Explorer links, digital signature fields, and object properties. PDFs created from Print Organizer do not maintain the scale info for the measurement commands in Acrobat while PDFs created from ProjectWise InterPlot Organizer do maintain this feature. Print Organizer allows only MicroStation design files (DGNs) and AutoCAD drawing files (DWGs) to be added to the print set file. ProjectWise InterPlot Organizer allows raster files, Office documents such as Word, Excel, and PowerPoint files, PDF documents, and dpr file in addition to MicroStation design files and AutoCAD drawing files. Additional advantages ProjectWise InterPlot Organizer include: ProjectWise InterPlot Organizer provides a command line interface. ProjectWise InterPlot Organizer design scripts are much more powerful than Print Organizer pen tables. ProjectWise InterPlot Organizer can be run outside of MicroStation where as Print Organizer must be invoked from within MicroStation. ProjectWise InterPlot Organizer supports plotting to a ProjectWise InterPlot Server which allows centralized management of printing and archiving features. Printing Options Depending on what software is installed, you may see up to 5 printing options in the File pull down menu in MicroStation V8i: InterPlot Organizer - The batch plot utility delivered with ProjectWise InterPlot Organizer. This replaces MicroStation PDF Composer. IPLOT - The IPLOT GUI used for interactive plotting of design files from within MicroStation V8i. This GUI is only delivered with ProjectWise InterPlot Organizer. Print Preview - The preview option for the MicroStation V8i Print dialog delivered with MicroStation V8i. Print - The MicroStation V8i Print dialog delivered with MicroStation V8i. This is the same print dialog existing in previous versions of MicroStation. Print Organizer - The new batch printing utility delivered with MicroStation V8i that replaces the legacy Batch Print utility. Wiki Page: Interplot Offline Raster Driver Pack [CS]

January 24, 2014, 7:00 am

Original Author: Bentley Technical Support Group This Client Server article is republished in its entirety from 2005 for reference purposes. The InterPlot raster offline driver pack supports the offline printing of a variety of monochrome and color raster formats. It may be loaded on Microsoft Windows 2000 Server, or Microsoft Windows Server 2003. A standard windows printer is defined using the raster offline driver and is shared via the printer properties. The output port will be defined via the Interplot batch port, which is provided with the raster offline driver. This port definition allows the user to manage the file naming pattern and the desired output directory. In conjunction with the InterPlot Batch Port, you can perform batch plotting to produce the following raster formats: Intergraph Type 9 (RLE) Intergraph Type 24 (CCITT Group 4) TIFF Group 3 TIFF Group 4 Monochrome BMP Monochrome PCX CALS Group 4 Intergraph Type 10 (Grey Scale) Intergraph Type 27 (Compressed RGB)\ Intergraph Type 28 (Uncompressed RGB) Intergraph Type 29 (Grey Scale) Color BMP Color TIFF Color Targa Color PCX Color JPEG Intergraph Type 9 High Resolution The InterPlot raster offline drivers provide several methods for changing the appearance of a plot. These methods vary depending on the type of application you are using. You can set your drivers to affect all plot jobs or to work on a per-plot basis. Driver setup is performed from within your system's print facility. Monitoring, as well as manipulation of the plot jobs is also performed from within your system's print facility. The same printers folder commands provided for managing native Microsoft drivers are also provided for the InterPlot drivers. The InterPlot raster offline driver pack also enables you to have plot labels associated with each job, thus enabling a user-defined text string to appear at the bottom of each plot job. Information such as the name of the file, the date the file was printed, and who sent the file are common uses of plot labels. In addition to the drivers, the driver pack also includes accounting and error logging utilities. The accounting utility lets you generate accounting information for each job that the printer processes on the plot server. This information enables system administrators to keep track of printer workloads and can be used, for example, when billing projects/departments and ordering printer supplies based on printer usage. Error logging lets you maintain error log information for each printer on the plot server, thereby assisting in troubleshooting printing problems. Wiki Page: Data Extraction For Accounting And Digital Archive Attributes [TN]

January 24, 2014, 6:50 am

Applies To Product(s): Digital InterPlot/InterPlot Client Version(s): v08.01.XX.XX Environment: N/A Area: N/A Subarea: N/A Original Author: Bentley Technical Support Group Overview You can use a pen table to extract data from MicroStation design files and AutoCAD drawing files. This data is written to the InterPlot Accounting file and can also be used for indexing drawings into the digital archive. IPLOT Pen Tables for use with MicroStation design files The tag_set and tag_name assignment keywords are used to specify tag set and tag name for later use by one of the comparison keywords. The tag keywords check the tag data attached to the current element: tag_display - checks to see if a particular type of tag is displayed tag_character - tests the actual tag's value tag_integer - tests the actual tag's value tag_real - test the actual tag's value If tag data is not attached to the current element, the tag_character keyword evaluates to "NO_TAG_CHARACTER", while tag_integer and tag_real evaluate to NO_TAG_NUM. The tag_character, tag_integer, and tag_real comparison keywords must be used with the tag_set and tag_name assignment keywords. The envr_value assignment keyword sets the current envr_variable to the specified string. This variable=value pair is then written to the accounting file and can also be used as attribute data in a digital archive. The envr_variable assignment keyword selects the IPARM environment variable you want to use in the pen table. The comparison keyword envr_value can be used to check the value of the variable. Example 1 ! This IPLOT pen table sets a plot sheet attribute based on the characters stored ! in the value field when the tag is attached to an element in the design file. This ! pen table is based on a tag set named "tline" containing the tag names "city", ! "county", and "state". The archive contains plot sheet attributes named "City", ! "County", and "State". The tag is associated with the border cell. tag_set = 'tline' tag_name = 'city' if (tag_character "NO_TAG_CHARACTER") then envr_variable = "City " envr_value = tag_character endif tag_name = 'county' if (tag_character "NO_TAG_CHARACTER") then envr_variable = "County " envr_value = tag_character endif tag_name = 'state' if (tag_character "NO_TAG_CHARACTER") then envr_variable = "State " envr_value = tag_character endif Example 2 ! This IPLOT pen table sets a plot sheet attribute based on the characters stored ! in text elements in the design file. This pen table is based on a tag set named ! "dpr". The set contains the tag names "account" and "project".The archive ! contains plot sheet attributes called "Account1", and "Project1". Each tag name ! is associated with a different text element. The tag name account is associated ! with the text element 123-456-789 and contains a tag value "Account Number:" ! and the tag name project is associated with the text element Color Landscape ! and contains a tag value "Project Name:". tag_set='dpr' tag_name='account' if (tag_character == "Account Number:") then envr_variable = "Account1" envr_value = characters endif tag_name = 'project' if (tag_character == "Project Name:") then envr_variable = "Project1" envr_value = characters endif Example 3 ! This IPLOT pen table is a variation of Example 2. The plot sheet attribute is set ! to the value of all text elements associated with the tag name by concatenating ! the values. tag_set='dpr' tag_name='account' if (tag_character == "Account Number:") then envr_variable = "Account1" envr_value = envr_value + " " + characters endif tag_name = 'project' if (tag_character == "Project Name:") then envr_variable = "Project1" envr_value = envr_value + " " + characters endif APLOT Pen Tables for use with AutoCAD drawing files The envr_value assignment keyword sets the current envr_variable to the specified string. This variable=value pair is then written to the accounting file and can also be used as attribute data in a digital archive. The envr_variable assignment keyword selects the APARM environment variable you want to use in the pen table. The comparison keyword envr_value can be used to check the value of the variable. Example 4: ! This APLOT pen table sets a plot sheet attribute based on the characters stored ! in text entities in the drawing file. The criteria to determine which text contains ! the appropriate characters is based on layer. The archive contains plot sheet ! attributes called "Account", "Project", and "Revision". if ((entity_type == text) and (layer == "account")) then envr_variable = "Account" envr_value = characters else if ((entity_type == text) and (layer == "project")) then envr_variable = "Project" envr_value = characters else if ((entity_type == text) and (layer == "revision")) then envr_variable = "Revision" envr_value = characters endif NOTE: The files used for this TechNote can be found at the following link: ftp://ftp.bentley.com/dist/plotcivil/plot/extractTN.zip See Also Product TechNotes and FAQs ProjectWise TechNotes And FAQs External Links Bentley Technical Support KnowledgeBase Bentley LEARN Server Comments or Corrections? Wiki Page: Digital InterPlot Design Script Extensions For ProjectWise Components [CS]

January 24, 2014, 6:50 am

This Client Server article is republished in its entirety from 2004 for reference purposes. Did you know that you can use ProjectWise-related keywords in InterPlot Design Script language? With Digital InterPlot 2004 Edition, ProjectWise components can be identified with new Design Script (iplot pen table) keywords to resymbolize the plots, and to create content-rich PDF documents. The available ProjectWise component keywords are: PW_COMPONENT_PROPERTY_NAME - Specifies the ProjectWise component property. Syntax PW_COMPONENT_PROPERTY_NAME = string PW_SHEET - Specifies whether or not the current plot's master DGN is a ProjectWise-managed file. If the current plot is ProjectWise aware, then the value is TRUE. Otherwise it is FALSE. Type PW_COMPONENT_PROPERTY_VALUE_INTEGER - Specifies the ProjectWise component's value associated with the property name selected through PW_COMPONENT_PROPERTY_NAME as an integer. Type PW_COMPONENT_PROPERTY_VALUE_CHARACTER - Specifies the ProjectWise component's value associated with the property name selected through PW_COMPONENT_PROPERTY_NAME as a character string. Type PW_COMPONENT_PROPERTY_VALUE_REAL - Specifies the ProjectWise component's value associated with the property name selected through PW_COMPONENT_PROPERTY_NAME as a real number. Type PW_COMPONENT_CLASS_NAME - Specifies the ProjectWise component's class name associated with the current element. Generic class name, like "Sprinkler" or "Door." Type string PW_COMPONENT_BUSINESS_KEY - Specifies the ProjectWise component's business key associated with the current element. Wiki Page: Controlling PDF Paper Sizes in iCS

February 10, 2014, 1:21 pm

Applies To Product(s): Bentley i-model Composition Server Version(s): Environment: N/A Area: PDF Subarea: Original Author: Dawn Gentry, Bentley Technical Support Group Problem Description The user has an HP 1055 print driver configured as the iCS printer. This allows the user to have both ANSI and ISO paper sizes available. Settings files (.set) which are located in ProjectWise help control the rendition profiles. However the user has to also account for a bunch of non standard paper sizes that are used. The HP driver allows one to specify only 5 custom paper sizes, which is not enough. For example, the user has created a custom paper size 1 that is 594mm x 1261mm. There is a corresponding .set file that defines this size. When the user wants to render a DGN to PDF in iCS, all of the options are available in the create rendition dialog. How can the user cater for all the non standard paper sizes? Steps to Resolve In the settings file, use a Paper Size NONE. Control the output size using the x/y size in the settings file. You will only need one paper size on the printer large enough to accommodate all sizes, but use different settings file based on what size you actually want. Forum Post: RE: Iplot Organizer error

Thank you Van. The fix seems to have taken care of the problem. Used version 8.11.11.58 of Interplot Organizer with the addition of configuration variable in iplot.cfg of "IPLOT_REF_RENAME_MSTN_LOGICAL=true". One last question though.... will this be incorporated in future builds or will we need to continue to add this?

Elizabeth, All future “V8i” releases will contain support for this variable that enables the fix. In the next major release of MicroStation and InterPlot that is currently in development, this variable may or may not be required. It is too early to know at this point. Thanks, Van

Wiki Page: How to update an existing ProjectWise InterPlot Driver Pack with a newer version?

February 14, 2014, 6:42 am

Applies To Product(s): ProjectWise InterPlot Driver Pack Version(s): N/A Environment: N/A Area: General Subarea: Original Author: Frank Reimann, Bentley Technical Support Group Problem Description Is it possible to update an existing ProjectWise InterPlot Driver Pack with a newer version without removing the older version, because all InterPlot print queues must be re-created if a driver pack is removed from the Server? Steps to Accomplish If it is not a Major Release upgrade (example: ProjectWise XM to ProjectWise V8i ) than you can install the newer ProjectWise InterPlot Driver Pack versions on top of the existing older ProjectWise InterPlot Driver Pack. Example ProjectWise InterPlot Driver Pack Version 03.04.03.11 Update to ProjectWise InterPlot Driver Pack Version 03.04.04.62 Example 2 ProjectWise InterPlot Mid-Volume Driver Pack Version 01.04.01.29 Update to ProjectWise InterPlot Mid-Volume Driver Pack Version 01.04.04.60. If it is a Major Release upgrade, then you have to remove the ProjectWise Driver Packs, Reboot and install it from scratch. Make sure that you have all printer queue settings documented.

Editor's note: This article was adopted from the Bentley TechNote, which contains more information about using InterPlot Organizer. TechNotes provide detailed technical and instructional information about many Bentley products. InterPlot Organizer is a Windows application delivered with InterPlot Client/InterPlot Professional for plotting MicroStation design files, AutoCAD drawing files, raster files, and Digital Print Room files. InterPlot Organizer allows you to work on a group of plots as a single plot set. It gives you full control over plot sets and the plots they contain. You can add, delete, and rearrange plots; view and modify the properties of individual or multiple plots; and preview and print all or some of the plots. You can also control how information about the plots in a set is displayed in the main window. InterPlot Organizer offers you several advantages: The interface allows you to work easily with large sets of plots At the beginning of a project, you can create a plot set file that corresponds to project drawings As the design progresses, you can easily produce new sets of drawings by using the InterPlot Organizer dialog box and the original plot set file Using InterPlot Organizer is often faster than plotting with the dialog box because you do not have to wait for MicroStation to load the design file or AutoCAD to load the drawing file before you plot InterPlot Organizer allows you to create and edit settings files and to edit configuration files How to use InterPlot Organizer To start InterPlot Organizer, do one of the following: From Windows Explorer, double-click the name of an existing plot set From the Start Programs InterPlot Utilities folder, click the InterPlot Organizer command To Start InterPlot Organizer from the Command Prompt: Add the bin subdirectory of the product directory to the system path (\Program Files\InterPlot Professional\bin or \Program Files\InterPlot Client\bin). Type the executable filename and one command line argument (optional): (iplotorg.exe ). If you started InterPlot Organizer without specifying a plot set, a Welcome dialog box appears. The Welcome dialog box contains shortcuts for the two operations that load information into Organizer: Creating new plot sets from files you select and opening an existing plot set. Click the appropriate option from the Welcome to InterPlot Organizer dialog box. Click OK to dismiss the Welcome dialog box and perform the selected operation. Click Cancel to exit the Welcome dialog box without performing any operation. Delivered with InterPlot Organizer is a tutorial designed to introduce you to InterPlot Organizer's key features. When you have completed this tutorial, you should have a basic understanding of InterPlot Organizer and its features. Organizer Command Line Interface InterPlot Client/Professional includes an InterPlot Organizer command line interface that runs from the command prompt. You can use the command line interface to create, modify, preview, print, and archive plot sets, and to export plots from plot sets. Plot sets can be composed of MicroStation, AutoCAD, raster, and Digital Print Room data. The InterPlot Organizer command line provides the following commands: Create - Creates plot set files Modify - Modifies plot set files Export - Exports plots from a plot set file as PARM files Preview - Displays plots on the screen before printing Print - Prints a plot set Archive - Archives a plot set file without printing An InterPlot Organizer command line has the following syntax: iplotorg -qualifiers plotset_file See Also Client Server Archive ProjectWise TechNotes And FAQs Comments or Corrections?
