The ordinary b5 hyaluronic acid review

When I find a brand that has a product that works well for me I’m always open to trying other products the brand has. That was the case for the brand The Ordinary.

After realizing that my oily skin was dehydrated I wanted to give it as much moisture and hydration as possible without adding oil. I found several products that helped but were curious if there was a serum I could add to my skincare regimen.

I saw several beauty influencers talking about integrating hyaluronic acid in their regimens and knowing that it was in some of the skincare products I used I thought that could be what I’m looking for. The problem was the serums the other influencers were recommending were more than I wanted to pay.

Then I remembered about The Ordinary! I had tried out The Ordinary’s Niacinamide 10% + Zinc 1% Serum and loved how it helped my oily skin. Plus, that brand is so inexpensive for such quality products. So I looked to see if The Ordinary had a hyaluronic acid serum.

I found that they had one!

The Ordinary Hyaluronic Acid 2% + B5 Serum claims to be “a lightweight water-based serum formulated with a combination of low, medium, and high molecular-weight hyaluronic acid, and a hyaluronic acid crosspolymer for multi-depth hydration.”

Some additional benefits of The Ordinary Hyaluronic Acid 2% + B5 Serum are

  • It replenishes lost moisture
  • Maintains healthy-looking skin
  • Provides enhanced barrier support for the skin
  • Has a balancing PH of 6.50 - 7.50

I’ve been using The Ordinary Ordinary Hyaluronic Acid Serum for quite a while now and I love it and have seen better moisture retention in my skin.

I use the Hyaluronic Serum mostly as part of my nighttime routine. Sometimes during the winter when it gets really cold, I’ll use it in the morning as well to help give my skin an extra boost before heading out in the cold dry weather.

When using it at night I apply the serum after I have used my facial toner and before any other treatments or moisturizer. When using it in the morning I apply it after the Niacinamide 10% + Zinc 1% Serum.

Since I incorporated the Hyaluronic Serum into my skincare routine I have seen that my skin has more of a glow or radiance, the texture looks better, and my skin doesn’t get easily dry in the winter like it used to.

If you’d like to give The Ordinary Ordinary Hyaluronic Acid Serum a try you can purchase it at Ulta, Amazon, or directly from the brand website.

As with any skincare product make sure to do a patch test and also see if it will interact well with your other skincare products.

Over time, I’ve realised that air-conditioned rooms suck the life out of my face. From dry, flaky patches to dullness, my complexion really takes a beating in such conditions. Unfortunately, I travel a lot, which means that I usually subject my skin to centrally air-conditioned hotels. Since there’s not much I can do about my environment [unless I switch everything off and then slowly melt away my existence], I decided to get my hands on a product with hyaluronic acid i.e. a molecule that is rumoured to hold up to 1,000 times its weight in water. With further ado, here is my review of The Ordinary’s Hyaluronic Acid 2% + B5.

Like the other products from this brand, this one too comes packaged in a frosted glass bottle. The cap features a glass dropper, which is helpful in dispensing just the right amount of product. The directions for use and list of ingredients are mentioned behind the accompanying box.

The formula feels quite like a cooling, watery serum and spreads easily across skin. Since it is clear in colour, it dries down to an invisible finish. The first few times I used it, I noticed that it left behind a tight, tacky film on my skin. However, after massaging it on to slightly damp skin, I’ve found that it absorbed well and did not leave behind any residue. I end up using about 3-4 drops to cover my entire face. Although the formula does not have any added fragrances to it, it does emit a chemical-like scent.

I’ve been using this serum for a few months now and have been satisfied with the results. Since it is not meant to be used alone, I typically apply a layer of Clinique Dramatically Different Moisturizing Gel or Dr. Jart+’s Cicapair™ Tiger Grass Cream, depending on how dry my skin feels. The serum helps my moisturizers sink in better and leaves me with a plumper and softer complexion. It also works well to calm down any skin irritation. The only downside is that I end up using a large amount of this serum on a daily basis, so I will need to repurchase soon.

Lightweight, soothing and affordable, this serum is more like a booster shot. If you’ve got extremely dry or dehydrated skin, it can definitely make a difference. I’ve already got another bottle in my cart.

What does the ordinary hyaluronic acid B5 do?

Description. Hyaluronic Acid 2% + B5 is a water-based formula combining low-, medium- and high-molecular-weight hyaluronic acid molecules and a next-generation HA crosspolymer to support hydration to multiple layers of your skin. It also targets the appearance of wrinkles and textural irregularities.

Is hyaluronic acid 2% B5 good for your face?

By using The Ordinary Hyaluronic Acid 2% + B5, you can make your complexion look plumper and minimise the appearance of facial lines. Whilst this serum will not reverse the signs of premature ageing, it works well in conjunction with other anti-ageing products and helps to rehydrate skin as it becomes older and drier.

How often should I use hyaluronic acid 2% B5?

If you find your skin is really benefiting from the additional hydration, you should apply it once in the morning and once in the evening. The Ordinary Hyaluronic Acid 2% + B5 is water-based so should be applied before heavy oils and creams, all over the face.

How long does it take for the ordinary hyaluronic acid to work?

This is because skincare, like all good things, takes time to show visible results. “Hyaluronic acid pulls water into the skin”, said the expert. You will start noticing hydrated skin immediately post usage, but it is only after 2-3 months of continuous use that your skin will look plumper and more luminous.
