Commandos: Behind Enemy Lines widescreen patch

ws fix doesnt work for this game with steam
actually, for commandos 3 which is the only one that works d3dwindower.exe is a program that forces dx8 if you so chose and forces windowed mode,
this is the only work around and the only game that works none of the others do and com3 doesnt work without the program mentioned.
that patch the ws one, all that does is nothing, it add's res's that my monitor doesnt even support, though i used something like this on anachronox and it worked for that games issues though it never had problems starting just randomly would be slow until the ws fix which allowed a CUSTOM res, which this link, doesnt offer.

so no this link diddnt help one bit :(
none of the games work minus com3 and thats using a 3rd party app that valve doesnt like it even says that it will ban me from mp for using it... not that the game is played in mp these days

anyway

help?

some lamer posted in another thread that NO ONE has issues with these games but me.. which if one looks in steam forums or gog or google stuff, these games have had issues since after xp faded away..

which oddly i did try the games on xp pro and the games still didnt work , minus 3 which uses that program mentioned

i tried 3 rigs
2 diff vid cards 2 diff cpus 2 mobos and 3 hds one with fresh install of win7 64 one old 7 64 and one with new install 8 64 bit

all drives are out of box factory sealed install windows and such then steam
and all the dists

this is a dx issue and a path issue as program files didnt exist in old days and nor did uac etc

so the issue is that the game cant tell the card to tell the driver to force dx8 or the codecs that the game uses (even with shark007 codec pack) nothing works

the mergergames sent me a mail saying yes they know many have issues with the game but they arent the devs, and are sorry.. again this bundle should be pulled off gog and steam

gog at least offered refunds ,, valve doesnt

shrug

any help would rock

Version differences[edit]

The GOG.com version has added compatibility fixes for modern systems, includes Commandos: Beyond the Call of Duty, and is cheaper than buying both games separately on Steam.

Essential improvements[edit]

Skip intro videos[edit]

Delete/rename H_Intro.avi[citation needed]
  1. Go to \VIDEO\
  2. Delete or rename H_Intro.avi.

Patches[edit]

The latest official patch for the European retail release is 1.1. The US release is already patched.

Steam "Ultimate Fix"[edit]

Install Steam Ultimate fix patch[2]
Fixes many of the numerous bugs the Steam version has (lack of sound, not being able to save or load and the gameplay running incredibly fast)
  1. Download the patch
  2. Extract it in the folder where the game is installed

Remove CD check[edit]

Only applies to the DRM-free Ammo Pack retail release. Do NOT use for DRM protected releases.
Edit the registry keys

If installed manually:

  • At step 3 of the manual installation fix here, for the DirCd value, use the same path as DirIns.

If installed using the game's installer:

  1. Copy the VIDEO folder from the disc to .
  2. In Windows Registry navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Pyro\Commandos\1.0.
  3. Change DirCd's path to the same one as DirIns.

Issues fixed[edit]

Can't install original retail version on 64-bit Windows[edit]

Manually install the game[3]
  1. Create the folder where you want the game to be installed (default would be C:\Program Files (x86)\Eidos Interactive\Pyro\Commandos)
  2. Open the \COMANDOS folder and copy its content inside the first folder
  3. Open Notepad, save the following with the .reg extension, then open and apply it.
Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\WOW6432Node\Pyro]

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\WOW6432Node\Pyro\Commandos]

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\WOW6432Node\Pyro\Commandos\1.0]
"DirCd"="D:\\Comandos"
"DirIns"="C:\\Program Files (x86)\\Eidos Interactive\\Pyro\\Commandos"
"Type"=dword:00000001

Notes

The above .reg file -which you need then to open to add the key to registry- assume D: as your CD drive and the default game path as the installation folder. If this is not your case adjust the registry keys accordingly. On 32-bit Windows, omit Wow6432Node from the path.

Save and Load are disabled[edit]

This issue occurs if you install the game manually (by copying over the game files), but not create the registry keys.
Create the registry keys mentioned in the manual installation fix here.

"Please run the German version on this computer" error[edit]

This issue has been fixed in the GOG.com version (specifically using the hex edit below).
Change your Windows language setting from "Deutsch (Deutschland)" to "Deutsch (Luxemburg)"[citation needed]
Hex edit Comandos.exe[4]
  1. Open the game executable with a hex editor such as HxD
  2. Search for 74 0C 81 FE 07 14 00 00 74 04
  3. Replace first and last 2 groups of byte (74 0C and 74 04) with 90 90
  4. Search for 74 0C 81 FF 07 14 00 00 0F 85
  5. Replace 74 0C with 90 90 and 0F 85 with 90 E9

"DIRECTX 5 NOT FOUND." error[edit]

Rename comandos.exe to commandos.exe[5]

Notes

This fix works on Windows 10 for the GOG.com version.

"Black Screen " error[edit]

This occurs due to the lack of VP6F codecs in modern operating systems

Notes

Rename the video folder to another name .

Game stutters when moving the mouse[edit]

Mouse movement seems to be tied to frame rate which can cause the game to stutter only when the cursor is moved
Change your mouse polling rate to 125 using its software. If no software is available, try using a different mouse (cheap mice work better) or use any Bluetooth mouse to play the game.
