Elden Ring hit the ground running on the sales charts, moving an astronomical 12 million units in under three weeks. At last count in mid-May, the RPG had crossed 13.4 million copies sold. As Elden Ring slowly begins to drop in price, its sales figures will undoubtedly continue to climb, especially since the positive word of mouth has yet to slow. FromSoftware has regularly updated Elden Ring in the months since its arrival on PC and consoles. Yet, fans remain hopeful that even more content will eventually surface, specifically in the form of a DLC expansion. Cut content such as Elden Ring’s mysterious coliseums has led many to believe that a PvP update of some kind could eventually see the light of day.

The highly anticipated Elden Ring is still a few months away from its launch date, but one retailer has already given the title sale discounts. Fans recently received in an in-depth look at the upcoming FromSoftware title in the form of a twenty-minute Elden Ring gameplay preview. While there appear to be a lot of familiar elements for FromSoftware fans in the upcoming action RPG, the title will be somewhat of a departure from the well-established Souls-like formula. Some of the most notable changes for Dark Souls veterans include a true open-world map in the style of The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild as well as mounted combat and an emphasis on verticality in gameplay. Other core gameplay elements that FromSoftware is known for, such as the varied styles of combat, an expansive loot system, and glowing checkpoints, are retained as well. Recently, however, Elden Ring's release date was pushed back by a month, signifying that the title may not be as close to its finished form as FromSoftware would like it to be. For the game's February release date, most retailers already have the price set at the usual $60 for the normal edition of the game with the deluxe edition set around $80. Twitter user Wario64, however, recently pointed out that Elden Ring purchases made for Steam through Green Man Gaming can get the game for a 20% discount. Players who purchase the title through this outlet will instead only pay $47.99 for the base version and $63.99 for the deluxe edition. Currently, it does not appear any other retailer outlets are giving a discount to the FromSoftware title at this time. It is a somewhat curious move considering Elden Ring has been so highly anticipated for some time throughout the gaming community at large, making it a top commodity no matter the price. By setting a discount so early, however, Green Man Gaming may draw in more business if they continue to be the only outlet where players can purchase the game at a discount prior to launch. While the concept of an open world, Dark Souls-inspired title sounds incredibly appealing, the fact remains that it has not been put into practice yet and remains unproven as something that can work. Competent development teams have overextended on ambitious projects before with Cyberpunk 2077 being a recent example. Elden Ring has been in development for a long time, however, and if the title at launch can live up to the footage already shown, then players are likely in for a truly epic experience.
