First, since you already tried opening the game, check to make sure the launcher is not still running in the background. If you are on Windows, go to the bottom right of your screen and click on the tiny ^ arrow. If the Sims 3 icon is in there, click on it and close the launcher.

Since this is a brand new computer, I'm guessing it has Windows 11, and the following information may not help you. If you are using Windows 10, then maybe something in this batch of stuff will be useful:

And here's an odd fix posted by someone:

I seem to have fixed the problem (although there may still be errors or bugs further on in the game). I am now able to run the game. The solution was to go to the game file under Program Files > Steam > steam > games. There I saw the Sims 3 Icon with a weird looking numerical name. I changed the name to The Sims 3 and now the game is running.

Hello, I am reaching out to EA Help for this issue because I have been trying to fix this issue for 12 hours straight. I have tried so many things and nothing has worked. So basically, when I go through Origin to launch TS3 Launcher, I press play in Origin, and then the Origin window disappears for 2 seconds as if it’s about to start the launcher, then it pops back up and nothing happens. (Such as the game launching the launcher.) I am about to list all of the things that I have tried, as far as my memory goes.

Things that I have tried:

- Deleting every file that states it’s The Sims 3 related on my laptop, and then restarting my computer and trying to reinstall The Sims 3.

- Uninstalling and reinstalling The Sims 3 through Origin.

- Deleting all Origin files except the local file and restarting my laptop, then opening Origin and signing back in.

Vague... vague, are you serious!? it tells you right there in black in white 'reinstall the base game'.

Grox, don't post comments like that if you're not willing to help. This is a genuine issue and reinstalling the game has absolutely no effect so take your attitude elsewhere please.

That said, I have exactly the same issue and nothing I try seems to be working. If anyone has any ideas on this one I would love to hear them.

You must fail also, it told him that he has to reinstall. You must reinstall it tells you to reinstall, how is that vague or unhelpful in anyway? 'reinstall the BASE game (meaning the first thing you install, not the DLCS) means you uninstall, then install again then I do not see what the problem is.

Reinstalling doesn't work, it does nothing. Don't go around calling people 'fails' if you yourself don't know about the problem.

Codesmith, I've been having this problem since December 2012 and it's sadly one without a fix that I know of.

I've contacted Steam; nothing, I'm still waiting for a reply from them. I've contacted EA; they did give me a reply, surprisingly. The reply was, basically, download this. The problem with this reply is the patcher does not work with the Steam version of The Sims 3, the patcher doesn't recognise it.

I have two suggestions:

• Look around in the game files, somebody on SPUF did this before and found the file that makes The Sims 3 unidentifiable. Note: the game files have changed, therefore that post is not a fix.
• Contact EA, they may give you a different reply but they are definitely more helpful than Steam with this.

If anyone else wants to help you they may want to know your PC specs and what you have tried already like verifying the game cache or reinstalling the game, things like that.

Thanks for the advice, I've just gone ahead and downloaded it from EA.

As far as reinstalling, I have about 5 times now, so that certainly isn't the fix.

Steam replied and the fix is to delete everything in the Steam folder, except; \Steamapps\, \Userdata\ and Steam.exe and launch Steam from the folder. I tried that and it worked.
