Aviation checklist app

The future of checklists is here!

Technology is at the intersection of so many ground-breaking technologies, from the cloud, to mobile, to voice assistants, to computers on our wrist. MiraCheck combines all of these innovations to unleash the potential of such a simple concept.

The companion mobile app MiraCheck CoPilot is where you interact with checklist procedures. Digital assistants are becoming commonplace, and MiraCheck CoPilot embraces this trend. It utilizes voice [Mira] to try to combat the complacency that can occur when you check the same items over and over. It was designed to take you through the content in the most efficient way possible. It also provides a framework for much richer checklist content. Items can be textual content, URL links, images and videos. More detailed rich content can also be associated with each item.

MiraCheck Cloud is where you discover, create, edit and share checklist procedures.

MiraCheck Cloud aims to be a central hub for the community to share their expertise. It has robust editing tools as well as a powerful search engine to easily discover checklist procedures.

The ultimate goal of a tool like MiraCheck is to reduce human-error and enable people on new procedures in the most efficient way possible.

The ultimate vision is learning checklists. When you are initially learning a new procedure there is a lot of detail and it walks you through the process in a very methodical way. Basically, it can act as a performance support tool for real-time on-the-job training. As you gain more experience, then the checklist acts more as an accountability tool and as a tool to reduce mistakes.

For this reason, checklist content for procedures should constantly be improved, and there are many features around this premise. Every time you interact with a checklist a session is created and historical record of all actions. This history can help you identify the flaws in procedures to improve them for the future. This history can also act as an accountability mechanism.

And just like checklist content should be constantly improved, we want to improve the experience as well. So give MiraCheck a try and share your thoughts with us.

Aviation Checklist has been developed based on previous work by Yeno Android Software to suit the needs of the aviation pilot. It allows you to have your favorite planes’ checklists in a phone or android table. The graphical interface is very simple and easy to read in the plane. The checklists are organized in four levels. No other app in the market has four levels, needed in aviation. Of course beside aviation, the app can be used for any other purpose where organization in four levels is needed as well as an easy transfer between phone and personal computer. Yeno Checklist XML files are also compatible. The first level is “Aircrafts”. You may have items like “Cessna 172” “Beech Baron” Etc. The second level is “Checklist Groups”. For each aircraft you may have items like: “Normal Procedures” “Emergency Procedures” “Performance” “Reference” Etc. The third level is “Checklists”. For each “Checklist Group” o procedure you may have items like: “Preflight Inspection” “Before Starting” “Before Take-off” “Take-off” Etc. Finally the fourth level “Tasks” may have items like: “Gear Down” “Flaps as Required” “Propeller Full Forward” Etc. Even though the user-friendly interface of the program allows you to directly create your checklists in the phone or tablet, for your convenience, you may download this desktop application for free from: www.qrouting.com/AvChecklist This program allows you to create or modify the checklists faster at your windows-based home computer [Apple and Linux apps will follow shortly]. You can transfer your checklists between your computer and your phone or tablet simply copying the database file [“AvChecklist.db”] or exporting and importing to an XML file. Previous Yeno Checklist’s XML files are also compatible. You can also upload and download checklists from the internet to easily share checklists between users or to transfer your checklists between the home computer and your Android device. As a pilot you may be interested in checking out our other application “Qrouting” in the “Android Market” QRouting is a complete Flight Planning Software for Aviation. It covers all the aspects of Flight Planning: - Weight and Balance - Fuel management - Operational Flight Plan - Flying the route with moving map with aeronautical charts - It downloads Aviation Weather Information Metar and Taf, - It downloads Aviation NOTAM Please, visit: www.qrouting.com To report errors, make any enhancement suggestions or get quick and friendly support, please send us an email to QRouting Software

The digital revolution has brought with it a host of advanced new apps for pilots.

While aviation technology is unlikely to replace the skills and expertise of human pilots any time soon, these navigation and data logging apps are certainly doing much to make their lives easier.

So, in no particular order, let’s look at some of today’s best apps for pilots:

Our favourite apps for pilots

MyRadar NOAA Weather Radar, Forecasts & Storms

Having been downloaded over 30m times, MyRadar is one of the most popular weather apps on the market.

Built specifically for aviation, this intuitively-designed app can perform functions like tracking IFR flights and their ATC-assigned flight paths, as well as showing how weather could affect the flight.

Flightradar24 Flight Tracker

Dubbed “The Facebook of Aviation” by Wall Street Journal, Flightradar24 Flight Tracker instantly puts huge amounts of data at pilots’ fingertips.

Using this app, pilots can view the current position of aircraft in real-time anywhere in the world, as well as the associated flight information.

Pilots can even point their mobile device at a plane on the tarmac to find out what type of aircraft it is and where it’s going, or bring up live arrival/departure boards and weather conditions for airports across the world.

CloudAhoy

CloudAhoy is a great app for flight instruction and post-flight de-briefing.

When the app is open, it will track all the details of your flight [location, altitude and speed], before creating an easy-to-read flight log.

Pilots can then review their flight in real-time using Google Earth, or an aviation chart.

Foreflight Mobile

Foreflight Mobile is a revolutionary iPad app that covers both pre-flight and in-flight processes.

Many pilots have completely replaced their paper charts, and even portable GPS systems, due to this app.

The app features moving maps, approach charts, terrain awareness, weather graphics, weight/balance info and much more.

LogTen Pro X

Electronic logbooks are nothing new, but LogTen Pro X has really set the benchmark.

It’s one of the most powerful logbook apps on the market, and can completely replace paper logbooks from a legal standpoint.

This self-contained iPad app syncs automatically via The Cloud. It keeps track of flight times, lets pilots view currency requirements and limits at a glance, and automates a range of scheduling processes.

E6B Aviation Calculator

The E6B Aviation Calculator is an ideal app for solving pre- and in-flight navigation problems.

It tracks the flight in a similar way to CloudAhoy [but also records fuel consumption], and provides extensive real-time global weather reports and unit conversion capabilities.

It’s also comparatively inexpensive and requires no ongoing subscription costs.

Qref Aircraft Checklists [iOS only]

The Qref Aircraft Checklists app brings digital versatility to what was once a solely paper-based procedure.

The app contains pre-flight checklists [written by Qref] for over 50 widely-used aircraft types, enabling pilots to pull up a relevant document with just a few swipes.

With versatility in mind, this app is available for both iPhone and iPad, and gives pilots capacity to customise docs to suit their own needs.

SkyDemon

SkyDemon brings a new level of convenience to flight planning and in-flight navigation.

Pilots can use this app to create, or edit, route plans by simply selecting waypoints, then letting the app calculate everything else.

The app also includes aeronautical vector charts with dynamic airspace clipping and a virtual radar that calculates everything from speed and weight, to airspace, terrain and rainfall.

However, even with app developers competing to automate additional processes with new technology, an experienced pilot is still the most important part of the equation. At AeroProfessional, we’ve created an extensive pool of talented pilots just waiting to take to the skies.
