The COUNTIF function counts cells in a range that meet a given condition, referred to as criteria. COUNTIF is a common, widely used function in Excel, and can be used to count cells that contain dates, numbers, and text. Note that COUNTIF can only apply a single condition. Syntax
The generic syntax for COUNTIF looks like this:
=COUNTIF[range,criteria]
