Is that so? So what's the point of exclusive mode? In this way, when playing music, it will be disturbed by the system sound.

ASIO is a third party protocal invented by Steinberg, for studio use, not for typical users simply want to disable Windows notification sound.

WASAPI is a Microsoft protocal and the exclusive mode is also a Microsoft feature and has nothing to do with ASIO.

Just a real example when multiclient ASIO is crucial for studio environment.

About to get a Motu M4, worried about all the Windows performance issue stories…

Hi all. I currently use a focus rite Scarlett 2i2 1st gen I got almost 8 years ago. It lacks gain I need, I need 4 inputs these days, and my Scarlett has some faulty worn out knob issues. The M4 checks all the boxes for me. I would be teaching on zoom on my Mac with it. And then twitch streaming...

Yes, it is a needed feature for an ASIO driver.

You can disable the Windows system sound, which is what I’ve done.

Thanks, I've enabled Exclusive Mode, but it doesn't work for my usb sound card.

Then it lies with who provided your Asio driver, it is possible to do this with Asio4all, which has exclusive mode as a default but Asio4all has its own set of problems.

For basic PCM it will work flow less on most of the systems.

What ASIO driver are you using? See in properties if it has an ASIO buffer and increase it.

ASIO, by its very nature, is an audio application interface designed to enable this to connect to that, and that to another thing before looping back to another input of this, that or the other thing. Accordingly, the very concept of exclusivity is entirely contrary to ASIO's core reason for existence.

So here are your options

persist with ASIO and manage the audio output of other software to prevent interference with your listening use WASAPI exclusive, designed to prohibit would-be disturbers from being heard In a standard domestic playback situation, I would always opt for the latter.

Well, I still choose asio.

Try ASIO4All.

You’re sure it’s an ASIO driver? An ASIO driver with no way to change buffer size makes no sense.

Well, if that's the case, Microsoft should explain in the system sound control panel that exclusive mode only supports wasapi.

Disabling the system sound is also a method, but I think it is also necessary to turn on the system sound when there is no music playing, because many software also use system notifications, and it is better to have a sound reminder.

I have used asio4all before, it has obvious cpu usage, and it seems that the sound is not as good as the native asio driver, so I did not use it.

It is more correct to say that only WASAPI supports exclusive mode.

ASIO is not part of Windows, neither developed nor supported by Microsoft. It is a ‘bolt-on goody’.

Sure, that is a preference many have. Personally I find the system sounds distracting, and similar for many visual notifications.

Yes, there is a prompt when installing the driver, but there is no control panel, and if there is no asio driver, the asio output cannot be selected in foobar.

But Microsoft provides an exclusive mode switch in the system sound control panel, which makes one think it always works.

No, it does not.

It provides a switch that says, "allow applications to take exclusive control of this device", which merely permits the device in question to be “seized” for exclusive use by applications designed (and correctly implemented) to do so.

How do I change my topping e30 to DAC mode?

In the standby state, long press the multifunction touch button for 3 seconds to display the current output mode. Hold pressing, it will switch to another output mode after 1 second. The pre-amplifier mode displays “Pre” and the DAC mode displays “DAC”.
