Review missha magic cushion moist up

Missha is a Korean beauty brand famous for their BB Cream and sunblocks, amongst other great skincare products. I decided to test out their “M Magic” cushion foundation in shade 21, 23, + 25 to swatch and review.

I am excited to see what additional shades Missha comes out with over the next year, as they have decided to expand their shade range on their BB cream to match more of their global fanbase.

Packaging

This foundation comes in a traditional cushion compact, with the foundation poured into the lower sponge portion and an application sponge in the top portion. There is a mirror in the inside lid of the compact.

Cushion foundations are very travel friendly and I do find that they tend to apply more sheer with the included applicator sponge.

Missha’s M Magic foundation claims to have light coverage, cover blemishes, hydrate skin, and provide sun protection. I found it to cover very well. The finish is very luminous and does get more shiny as the day goes on.

I feel like this foundation works best for me worn with an oil control primer and setting spray. This foundation works well for me worn for a few hours [for running errands or a dinner out], but does tend to get too dewy for me when worn all day long.

I absolutely love the coverage, it is light and builds nicely to medium coverage. The only downside for me is that shades 23 and 25, which were my best skin tone match, have too much of a yellow under tone [I have a peach skin under tone]. You can see this in the 3rd photo below, compared to my Armani shade 4.25 and in the 4th photo, where I am wearing shade 25.

Overall, this is a nice light weight feeling foundation and I think it would be a great pick if your undertones lean more yellow or gold.

Magic Cushion sponge for a quick & easy makeup application. Lightweight adherence, buildable coverage, moisturizing, and sun protection benefits with SPF50+/PA+++. 1. Perfect Coverage - Micro Cover Pigment helps cover flaws to create a cleaner complexion. 2. Long-Wearing - Smooth Silica Bead Powder helps absorb sweat and sebum for long-lasting wear without a darkening effect. 3. Lightweight - Boron Powder helps achieve a smooth and lightweight application without buildup. 4. Smooth, Dewy Finish - Bamboo Water & Baobab Tree Fruit Extract help provide moisture while Witch Hazel Extract help soothe the skin for a truly comfortable wear.

Hello everyone! 🙂 In this post, I will be reviewing all my Missha cushions. I have both the old and new versions of the Missha Magic Cushions. I will be sharing my thoughts on them; and at the end, I will be showing how they look like when worn on the face.

I do not have the new version of the dewy cushion [Missha Magic Cushion Cover Up] but I am interested in trying that one as well. I might try it once my old ones run out. 😀

All right, on to the review. 😉

CRITERIA:

PACKAGING – Is it cute? Is the packaging too bulky or too flimsy or sturdy enough? Does it get dirty easily? Do I see myself travelling with it? Is it pretty enough to give as a gift to someone?

PERFORMANCE – Is it easy to use/apply? Does it blend easily? Is it beginner-friendly? Do I feel pretty whenever I wear it? Is the color match perfect?

LONGEVITY – Can I wear it for events? How about for extreme outdoor activities? How often do I need to reapply? Is the SPF high enough?

VARIETY – Is the shade selection wide? Do I see it working for different skin tones/colors?

VALUE FOR MONEY – If it is affordable, I have lower expectations but I prefer it over luxury/expensive products for which I have higher expectations. Would I repurchase it?

PACKAGING

  1. Moisture and Cover [Old] versions- These cushions come in very cute packaging. Missha often collaborates with other brands such as LINE [messaging app] and Minions. Aside from being cute and pretty, their packaging is also quite unique. The special edition sets of products also make pretty gifts for your loved ones. I have the bear cushion from the LINE Friends Edition and the Minions cushion. I don’t think I’ll ever throw them away because the packaging is just too cute. I don’t find this type of packaging bulky since there is space inside the compact for the cushion puff, which makes it quite handy. However, brands keep improving their packaging, coming up with smaller and thinner cushions compacts. These smaller, thinner cushion compacts are less bulky and take way less space in your makeup bag.
  2. Cover Lasting [New] version- Missha’s new and reformulated cushions come in thinner compacts. The Cover Lasting version, which is supposed to be their “matte” cushion foundation, comes in a compact with a light pink matte-textured cover. The rest of the compact is white. I like this type of packaging; but of course I still prefer the cute packaging of their special edition cushions. I also find that the cover gets dirty easily.

PERFORMANCE

  1. Moisture version [old]

Claims: The Magic Cushion that moisturizes with each pat for moist and vitalized skin [yeoja.store]

This cushion foundation applies and blends easily on the skin. It also instantly adds glow to the skin while providing hydration as well. I agree with the claim that this cushion moisturizes the skin. It has a dewy finish; but it does not leave the skin looking and feeling greasy. However, it does not provide enough coverage on its own. You still need to apply a concealer on problem areas such as pimples, dark spots and under-eye circles. I recommend this cushion for people with dry-normal skin and for students or younger people. I do not recommend this for people who have oily or textured skin and for those who prefer a medium-high coverage foundation.

  1. Cover version [old]

Claims: Magic cushion with perfect coverage to help achieve flawless skin and long lasting makeup without darkening Micro cover pigment delivers flawless coverage to skin and silica-bead powder effectively absorbs sweat and sebum, leaving makeup last longer. Including bamboo water and baobab fruit extract, it provides moisture to skin and containing witch hazel extract, it soothes and calms the skin. [yeoja.store]

The cover version also applies and blends easily on the skin. But unlike the moisture version, this one is not as dewy and it provides more coverage. I sometimes do not wear concealer anymore when I am using this cushion. Out of all the three Missha cushions I currently own, this one is my favorite because it provides good coverage and just the right amount of moisture on my skin. The shade 23 in this version also matches my skin tone and undertone perfectly.

  1. Cover Lasting version [old]

Claims: A long-lasting, brightening cushion compact. Hides flaws without darkening caused by oxidation; absorbs sweat and sebum; lightweight formula prevents caking even after touch-ups. [beautymnl.com]

I agree with all the claims above, except for the last part. This cushion is long-wearing and brightening; and it provides amazing coverage. The new version also provides more coverage than the old one. However, the new version is a bit trickier to work with because it has the tendency to look cakey even during application. I have to spend more time blending this cushion foundation on my skin, making sure it won’t settle on my fine lines and dry patches. But once it is blended, I don’t even need to set it with powder anymore. Throughout the day, it doesn’t look any better or worse so I would say that I am not fully satisfied about the performance of this cushion. Touching up is also not advisable especially if you have dry skin because it will just look even more cakey. I may recommend this cushion to people who have oily but not textured or acne-prone skin.

Ingredients: Water, Titanium Dioxide, Cyclopentasiloxane, Ethylhexyl Methoxycinnamate, Ethylhexyl Salicylate, Trimethylsiloxysilicate, Glycerin, PEG-8 Dimethicone, Butylene Glycol, Pentylene Glycol, Niacinamide, Diphenylsiloxy Phenyl Trimethicone, C12-15 Alkyl Benzoate, Cyclohexasiloxane, Iron Oxides, Neopentyl Glycol Diheptanoate, Butylene Glycol Dicaprylate/Dicaprate, Cetyl PEG/PPG-10/1 Dimethicone, PEG-8, Magnesium Sulfate, Methyl Methacrylate Crosspolymer, Dimethicone, Vinyl Dimethicone/Methicone Silsesquioxane Crosspolymer, Sorbitan Isostearate, HDI/Trimethylol Hexyllactone Crosspolymer, Phenoxyethanol, Disteardimonium Hectorite, Stearic Acid, Alumina, Iron Oxides, Triethoxycaprylylsilane, Fragrance[Parfum], Dimethicone Crosspolymer, Iron Oxides, Ethylhexylglycerin, Adenosine, Water, Disodium EDTA, Silica, Rosa Canina Fruit Oil, Boron Nitride, Persea Gratissima [Avocado] Oil, Olea Europaea [Olive] Fruit Oil, Xylitol, PEG-32, Helianthus Annuus [Sunflower] Seed Oil, Calophyllum Inophyllum Seed Oil, Bambusa Vulgaris Water, Dipropylene Glycol, Cereus Grandiflorus [Cactus] Flower Extract, Hamamelis Virginiana [Witch Hazel] Extract, Adansonia Digitata Fruit Extract, Oxygen, Tocopherol

LONGEVITY

  1. Moisture version- This version does not last as long as the other two; but it still has a decent staying power as long as you set it with powder. Even after 6-8 hours, it does not look patchy and it fades evenly. It does not look cakey and it also does not settle into my fine lines and dry patches. Both the old and new versions of the Magic Cushion have SPF 50 PA+++; that’s why I do not recommend wearing them for events at night or when taking photos with flash. The moisture version is perfect for everyday especially for school and/or work. I rarely reapply or touch up my foundation within the day; but this version can be reapplied throughout the day without looking cakey.
  2. Cover version- The cover version lasts longer than the moisture one; but does not last as long as the new version. It can last for 8-10 hours with no touch-ups. I can even wear it for extreme outdoor activities. In fact, this is the foundation I wore to Disneyland! It survived an entire day with minimal touch-ups. [just facial tissue and face powder] I recommend the cover version for those who are looking for a medium coverage and long-wearing cushion foundation.
  3. Cover Lasting version- This version is the most long-wearing one; but like I mentioned, it has a tendency to look cakey. Since I have dry skin, I also do not use this everyday. When my skin is feeling dehydrated and extra dry, I never reach for this cushion. But if you have oily skin, you might like this cushion since it lasts all day without the need for reapplication. I do not even need to blot with tissue and touch up with powder when I am wearing this cushion. It is truly long-lasting!

VARIETY – The old version of the Missha Magic Cushion is already discontinued; but you can still find it in some online stores. However, both the old and new versions have a very limited shade range. There are only 2 shades available for the old version; [

21 and

23] and 4 shades available for the new version . I own the shade 23 in all versions; and I still find them slightly lighter than my skin tone. Unfortunately, people who have medium-dark skin tone would not find a shade from their range. That is the biggest con for most Korean brands. Most of their foundation/BB cream shades are just too light; although expanding the shades from two to four is a good move for Missha. I hope they can expand the range further so more people can get to try their products.

Old Version:

New Version:

VALUE FOR MONEY – Missha is an affordable Korean brand. They are also making their products available in many different countries. In the Philippines, they already have physical stores. I bought all my Missha products online; and they are slightly cheaper than the ones in stores. I also buy special sets of these cushions [cushion+refill/s] to save more money. The price of each cushion [+1 refill] ranges from 600 to 800 pesos. For me, it is a pretty good price considering I can just keep repurchasing refills.
