IPhone SE 2022 in 2022 Reddit

Came from a Redmi Note 8 Pro, reason I got a new phone was because the Bluetooth chip had software issues that were never resolved, couldn’t hear out of the speaker when I had to listen to a call outside and I got sick of the massive phone

Loving it so far. So much easier to type on, forget it’s in my pocket at times. IOS is simple yet beautiful. Another reason why I went with an iPhone is the longer support in comparison to most android phones

In terms of the chassis, I like it. I don’t see why people were complaining about the older design. It still looks really nice, and this is coming from someone with a phone with practically no bezels

One con is that my SE came with hairline scratches on the camera glass [not the lens] no big deal, but if there is a way I could get rid of them I’d like to know

This comment needs more upvotes - a helluva lot more.

OLED screens, stupid-ass notches, fancy chassis ‘nshit? Pfft. I don’t want to get a migraine by simply looking at my screen [PWM], don’t want a break on the top of it either to accommodate some fancy-schmancy infrared tech to scan my goddamn face, and I sure as hell don’t want to get mugged by brandishing a shiny-ass device in my hand when out in public. Gimme an unassuming-looking iPhone with all the bells and whistles ON THE INSIDE!!!

That said, I actually did test the golden waters out and got one of Apple’s flagship phones recently - only to return it less than a week later and revert to my trusty 2016 OG SE [which, btw, still runs flawlessly and looks like a damn good-looking practical tool that’s meant to be used and abused unlike Apple’s newer fragile-looking things]. RAW PERFORMANCE IN A SLEEPER CHASSIS IS WHERE IT’S AT!!! The 2022 SE looks promising when viewed from this lens, but it unfortunately doesn’t have the effortless sex appeal of its 2016 predecessor. Guess we’ll just have to wait and see what [cr]Apple has in store for the 2024 SE if they’re still following the traditional release timeline for this particular line. Can’t wait to see what the next SE chassis is going to look like!

I've only had mine for almost 2 weeks now. It is my first iPhone too. I'm an Android power user and I still keep mine around but let me tell you this, the SE is blazing fast. And the camera is not to be underestimated. It is an unusually balanced phone all-around although it is expensive for the dated hardware involved. Had they kept the price similar to the previous gen, this could easily be the best value in the mid-range segment by far. The A15 Bionic is just insane in performance and features. The single lens 12MP camera with the A15's processing [as well as the 7MP front cam] beats out all of the low, majority of the mid, heck even the mid-high range camera phones. I was honestly blown away by how much modern iOS I got out of this "gimped" iPhone.

Praises aside, the battery does suck. No Night Mode. And the screen is awfully too small and terrible by today's standards. It does look good enough and does a decent job but its arguably obviously dated. The X series would have been the nice spot for Apple to build the SE on but this screen size, bezel and tech has shown its age. If you don't like/want/need Touch ID enough, the 12 or 13 Mini are the better options.

Otherwise, I love my SE. It looks, feels and runs like a real premium. Its too small to be my main phone which is why I still keep my giant Android but as an entry to the Apple/iOS ecosystem, this phone is an absolute banger. It honestly should have been called the "iPhone Classic" because that's really how it feels used.

The iPhone SE 2022 has to be the best phone apple has put out in recent years. Before everyone shits on me, hear me out.

The iPhone SE has a trick in the book that no other modern iPhone being sold on the apple website has. This is a trick that many reviewers have conveniently missed as well. Repairability!

All iPhones since the iPhone X have had faceID and recent iPhones have even begun to integrate it into the display itself. The FaceID is paired to the logic board through an IC chip. So if you were to attempt to ever replace a real iPhone 13 display with an aftermarket display because you don’t want to pay the guys at apple ridiculous prices, your faceID would cease to work. And it will show a fake display notification. Which means now you have to put in the password on a 1000+$ phone everytime you unlock. Even if u replace a real display with a real display you need proprietary apple software to pair that new display to your logic board.

The story continues with battery, the battery also has a chip that lets apple software tell a real battery from an aftermarket battery. When you replace a real battery with an aftermarket replacement, the phone shows a notification that you’ve got a fake battery. This is going to drive the resale value of your iphone to the ground.

With the iPhone SE 2022, this is a different story. Touch ID is attached to the display but can be removed and attached to a different display and so replacing the screen with an aftermarket screen does absolutely nothing except take away true tone. Which can be brought back by reprogramming the display.

Battery, when replaced with an aftermarket battery doesn’t create a notification, it simply leaves your battery heath stuck at 100%.

Finally, iPhone 8 parts such as lightning ribbons, volume and mute switch ribbons and power button ribbons can all be used in the iPhone SE 2022 and since iPhone 8 parts have been around for a while they’ll be a whole lot cheaper to source. As long as you don't buy a midnight iphone SE, your buttons won’t look wrong if replaced with iPhone 8 parts. Heck, you can even get a white bezelled display for your starlight iphone SE.

By the way, did I mention that curved edges makes it easier to pry out the screen without shattering it if you are opening the phone to replace something other than the screen. The flat side phones like 12 have made the display harder to get out for amateur repairmen. Iphone 13 is even worse in this regard since it has an even thinner display, dont believe me? Check out jerryrigeverything’s video on this matter.

Finally, lets talk longevity. Smaller screen, battery and single camera aside this phone is essentially a home button version of iPhone 13 mini and a lot of people like that. Theoretically its slightly more powerful than 13 and 13 mini because it has less pixels to push on the display.

So if you can make peace with what many people call a downside to this phone or if the “downsides” to this phone are actually what attract you in the first place. The iPhone SE is the best phone you can buy right now longevity-wise.
