How do I manually install a USB driver?

Follow the steps below to manually install the USB driver using the Windows 7 Device Manager.

1. Right click on [My Computer] and select [Open]. Click [System properties], and open the [Device Manager].

2. Connect the data logger or data collector to your PC with a USB cable. If the PC does not recognize the recently connected device, an [Unknown device] message will appear.

* If that message does not appear, please check to make sure there are batteries in the connected device or that the device's power is ON. If the message still does not appear, it is possible that something is wrong with the USB terminal on the PC or on the device, or a broken wire in the USB cable.
* If the driver has been installed properly [USB Recorder Com] will appear in the device manager as shown in Step 7 below. (For TR-7Ui/7wf/7nw)

3. Right click on [Unknown device] and select [Update Driver Software(P)].

4. After the "Update Driver Software" window has appeared, click "Browse my computer for driver software".

5. Specify the location of the device driver. Next depending on the circumstances select one of the following:

A: Select to install the driver from CD-ROM
B: Select to install from the folder where the software was installed on your PC

A: Installing the driver from CD-ROM

Click the [Browse] button and find the CD-ROM drive; then select the folder entitled [Device Driver].

For example, if the CD ROM drive is "D:" then it should be "D: Device Driver". If you are using RTR-57U, then select the folder [RTR-57U] and if you are using TR-50U then select the folder [TR-50U].

B: Installing from the folder where the software was installed

Click the [Browse] button and select the driver folder for the device from the folder into which the software was installed (if RTR-50 then select [Driver RTR-50]).

EX: C:\Program Files\RTR-50 for Windows\Driver RTR-50
* Place a check next to "Include subfolders".

6. By clicking [Next], a confirmation window like the one below will appear. Click [Install]. After the message "Windows has successfully updated driver software" appears, click [Close].

7. Confirm in the Device Manager that the display looks like below. If there is no problem, then the driver has been installed properly.

TR-50U2, TR-57DCi

That completes the installation.

If you’re using the free version of Driver Easy, it will automatically download driver updates for you, and you need to install them manually. In this article, we show you how.

1) In Driver Easy, click the downward triangle next to Update for the driver you want to update, then select Open File Location.

2) If the file has a “.exe” extension, you can just double-click it, and follow the on-screen prompts. Otherwise, click the address bar to select the full address, then press the Windows logo key and C at the same time your keyboard to copy the address to your clipboard.

3) On your keyboard, press the Windows logo key and R at the same time to invoke the Run box. Type devmgmt.msc in the run box and click the OK button to open Device Manager.

4) In Device Manager, expand the categories and locate the device that you wish to update the driver for. In this example, we’re looking for Realtek Audio, which is in the “Sound, video and game controllers” category.

Note: Your device may be in a different category.

Note: For some devices, the device name displayed in Driver Easy may be different from what’s shown in Device Manager. If you’re in doubt, click on the device name in Driver Easy. The Driver Information box will pop up, showing the full device name that you should be looking for in Device Manager.

5) In Device Manager, right-click on the device name and click Update driver (in your case, this may be Update Driver Software…)

6) Select Browse my computer for driver software.

7) Paste the location address you copied in step 2 into the location field, then click Next.

8) Wait until the driver installation process completes.

9) Once the driver is installed successfully, a window will pop up and let you know Windows has successfully updated your drivers.

Windows says “The best drivers for your device are already installed”?

If you get a message saying “The best drivers for your device are already installed”, don’t worry. Sometimes Windows thinks you already have the latest driver when you don’t. This is pretty common – particularly with older devices.

If you get this message, you can still update the driver:

1) On your keyboard, press the Windows logo key and R at the same time to invoke the Run box. Type devmgmt.msc in the run box and click the OK button to open Device Manager.

2) In Device Manager, expand the categories and locate the device that you wish to update the driver for. Right-click on the device name and click Update driver (in your case, this may be Update driver software…)

3) Select Browse my computer for driver software.  

4) Click on Let me pick from a list of available drivers on my computer.

5) Click Have Disk…

6) Paste the address you copied way back at step 2 into the location field, and click OK.

7) Click Next.

8) If you get the following warning, click Yes to finish updating the driver.
