Everybody knows the brand Clinique, famous for their formulas 100% fragrance free and its well-known 3-step skin care. Evelyn Lauder, the daughter-in-law of Estee Lauder read in 1967 an article called “Can great skin be created?” published by the American Vogue magazine, written by the beauty editor Carol Phillips and the dermatologist Norman Orentreich. Evelyn Lauder created Clinique and introduced it in the market in 1968, year of the 3-Step Skin Care System which consists of a daily cleansing, an exfoliating and a moisturizer.

The moisturizer was until this year, existing in a lotion for dry-normal skin and in a gel formula for combination-oily skin. In 2018, the dramatically different hydrating jelly is born.

So, what has changed?

On the website, they say “An unbelievably lightweight, water-jelly that delivers 24-hour hydration repair plus pollution protection.”

“What it does:

• Strengthens skin’s moisture barrier and improves resiliency.

Here we go!

I already had the Dramatically Different Moisturizing Lotion+ and I was really happy with it, my skin was better, more beautiful and glowing. However, some days the product took time to absorb and I had to wait longer before being able to apply my make up. When I heard that Clinique was launching a new formula, I absolutely wanted to try it.

What do I think?

Well, first we can see that the lotion is not yellow as the previous ones, but completely clear and transparent. The bottle stays the same but the texture is not. In addition to the color, the product is very light and feels like water. I was quite impressed the first time that I tried the product on my skin. I wondered how can a product so liquid moisture the skin as much?

Yes, for the texture, but also yes for the hydration. It really works!

I have a sensitive, combination skin, I have used this product for 3 weeks and I can already see a difference, my skin is really smoother.

The product dries very quickly on my skin which for me is a good thing, especially in the morning when you are in a rush.

I used to wear foundation everyday more or less and since using this product, I only need to use concealer where I need it.

At the end of the day, my skin is still nice and hydrated, and it does not shine on my skin like other creams often do.

The only negative point is if you wear foundation afterwards, I think it is better to wear an additional moisturiser over the Clinique jelly.

For people with very dry skin, I think they should ask for a sample and try it, I do not know if the product will be moisturising enough.

I still highly recommend this product.

I bet that a huge following of Clinique was as excited as I was about Clinique's newly released Dramatically Different Hydrating Jelly. Like a curious little child, I'm always thrilled to experience what Clinique has to offer. Every time.

Now this jelly product was launched a few weeks ago. I initially tried it when there was a little promo that HK ran. After I finished all the contents of the sachet [when did they become tight on providing sachets instead of usual mini versions??], I decided I'd get one.

If you've used the original dramatically different lotion, then you'd love this water-clear jelly.

1. It's super lightweight. I apply it twice a day on my face and neck and it feels like nothing is on my face. It dries up quickly, too. If I'd compare it to its predecessor, it felt a little slower in terms of drying up and I remember feeling heavy due to its lotion consistency.

2. It's fast absorbing. Amazingly fast how the skin absorbs the formula and it's so great. I wouldn't need to lather it repeatedly on my face and neck just so it doesn't feel wet.

3. Gentle, oil and fragrance-free. I'm dry combination and my t-zone gets oily as hell most of the time so it's really imperative of me to stay away from oily products [ahem, fats!]. Since I used this, it didn't feel a lot greasy thru the day.

Anyone can use a gel moisturizer, but they're frequently a preferred option for those of us with oily or combination skin types. If you like lightweight coverage in a moisturizer or prefer something that doesn't have a sticky texture, a gel is the way to go! It's also a great option if you struggle with acne. If you use a serum in your morning routine, it’s best to apply serum first before adding moisturizer. The Dramatically Different Moisturizing Gel would be your second step.

Apply a few drops to clean skin and lightly pat in place using your fingertips. I prefer to apply mine in the morning right after my shower, on freshly washed skin.

I apply it all over my face, on the backs of my hands, and on my neck. You only need a small amount of this moisturizer, so the bottle lasts a long time. One bottle lasts approximately 4 – 5 months for me and about 3 months for Daisy [she uses this lotion twice daily].

Are There Any Drawbacks?

The lack of sunscreen in this moisturizer is the only drawback I've found, but it isn't a huge concern since I apply a broad spectrum SPF 30+ daily anyway.

This is a lightweight formula, so it's better suited for the summer season or in areas with high humidity. You may want to try Clinique Dramatically Different Moisturizing Lotion or Clinique Dramatically Different Moisturizing Cream during the dry winter months or if you are someone who suffers from dry skin year-round.

The Verdict

Two thumbs up! Clinique is an incredible makeup brand, and this is a moisturizer Daisy and I both keep in our regular rotation. Daisy has such a fear of hers running out that she purchases a new bottle as soon as hers gets anywhere close to the bottom of the container! We consider this the best Clinique moisturizer for oily skin.

We both like that our skin feels hydrated and moisturized with this gel, but it doesn't leave any sticky or greasy residue. The lightweight formula is perfect for our morning routine when we're building additional layers of primer and foundation, because it doesn't make skin feel weighted down.
