Don't have this lens but have you considered Samyang/Rokinon 12mm f/2.0. It is slightly more expensive but it is faster at f/2.0 instead f/2.8.

Not that this will be helpful, but I just returned a 6.5mm Meike fisheye lens. It wasn't bad optically, and perfectly capable of funky images. But it had its infinity setting smack in the middle of the range, at the 1ft mark (lol). And even though it was very compact, it was also very heavy.

Just do some testing... QA is probably not Meike's strong side.

Mine is fine - very well built, as is my Meike 35/1.7 (real bargain).

The big issue with the 6.5mm is that it is full circular fish eye on aps-c which has “the look” whilst because it is aps-c re-mounted for M4/3 the image circle gets cropped. Which is not bad but it is nicest with full circle - so I have adapted it to Sony E (yes it can be done) and use it on my NEX6 where it captures a pleasant full circle image.

Sorry can’t help with the 12/2.8 but Meike quality/value seems quite good in my opinion.

ePHOTOzine reviewed it on a Panasonic G6... one of the few reviews with the lens on mFT.

https://www.ephotozine.com/article/meike-12mm-f-2-8-lens-review-30051EPh

Samples look nice. Distortion well controlled. Flare is a little high. Interesting lens.

I have 3 zooms that hit twelve (12-32, 12-40, and 12-45), so I'm using that fact to avoid G.A.S. here as the distortion control does look nice.

From the review:

Looking at flare, we immediately hit a significant weakness. Even the slightest hint of a light source such as the sun at the edge of the frame simply wipes out the image. Provided the light is watched and against the light shots are avoided or handled by standing in shade then contrast is very good, but the merest hint of strong light on the lens and the image disappears in a haze of purple.

That could be a bit of a drawback. Running into this to some degree with my Rokinon 12/2 as well, especially indoors.

Just as a side issue the Olympus 12/2.0 has to rely on software corection to get its results and it is an expensive lens - if Meike can get there on lens design alone without software help than some tendency to flare can be excused at its more affordable price.

Sorry but 12 mm is not UWA for µ4/3 in my book. It's a nice wide-angle, equivalent (the E word) to 24mm. UWA is anything 9-ish and below in µ4/3 (18mm or less in 35mm FF equivalent). The Laowa 7.5mm F2 is a true UWA as are the various 7-14, 8-18 and 9-18mm zooms available from Panasonic and Olympus.

Now, realizing the Meike is primarily an E-Mount APS-C lens, it would act as an 18mm (35mm Eq) lens on an APS-C camera hence would cut it for UWA on such a body but not on a µ4/3 one...

Sadly - this Meike 12mm f/2.8 is a lens that has no stand out feature for an amateur M4/3 user.

It is only 1 stop brighter than the kit 14-42 lenses for micro 4/3 - but these come with AF and OIS (panasonic) as well as signalling to the camera body for in-camera corrections or exif data to trigger automatic corrections in programmes such as DXO Pro. Both the Panasonic and Olympus kit zooms have amazing image quality in the 14-35mm range, and only drop a little up to full 42mm.

At 12mm wide this lens is only a little wider than the 14-42mm kit lenses and reviews suggests that this is not as wide as other 12mm.........so perhaps nearer 14mm?

So what do I want instead? Easy answer - something that makes a visible photographic difference over the kit lens.

A rectilinear 18-20mm full-frame equivalent would be ideal (9-10mm in micro 4/3 terms) - but at a price that Meike and 7-artisans should be able to deliver (ie way cheaper than the $500 Laowa M4/3 ultrawide) . It doesn't have to be optically perfect - I accept that no one can make these at top image quality without very expensive high density, aspheric glass lens elements - the idea is to get the ultrawide perspective at a price amateurs can afford. Vivitar and Sigma understood that back in the days of 35mm film SLRs.

For now, I am using the excellent 7-artisans F2.8 fisheye with native M4/3 mount and defishing easily with DXO-Pro. Yes....sure the Olympus Pro model fisheye is optically better, but not by THAT much to justify the dramatic difference in a price over the 7-artisans. And that 7-Artisans is priced just ahead of the F8 Olympus "body cap" "pinhole style" fisheye.

Until then - I am waiting before buying (Meike, are you listening?)

Best wishes - Paul C

Samyang 12mm and 7artisans 7.5 are both excellent if not great lenses, especially at those prices.

The problem with matured companies in a matured market is that they have more liabilities, higher pay workforce and generally less agile response. They cannot afford to make less expensive products because of narrow profit margins. Sigma is doing exceptionally well in this environment imo.

Hey Rick

As someone mentioned, the 12mm Chinese/Korean lenses are for larger formats and hence big and heavy.

PLUS

None will be as nice to use as a 12/2 Oly (under $400 if you shop around). Not only AF and full electronics but also has a hyperfocal shooting manual mode.

PLUS

If you later decide you should have purchased a 9-18mm you can sell the 12/2 for the price you paid.

Doubtful with one of the Chinese/Korean lenses.

Yes, the 12mm f2 isn't "great and dirt cheap" like the 45mm 1.8, it's just "great".

But you get sharpness, light and compact size, autofocus, good build. Very much quality of life factors.

Rick-

Add'l info on inexpensive 12mm lenses.

The fellow here:

https://sonyalpha.blog/

has reviewed the Rok 12/2, 7Artisans 12/2.8 & Meike 12/2.8

The Rok comes out on top the Meike last.

I like the fact that the 7Art has a DOF scale like the Oly 12/2, the others (judging by the photos) do not.

HOWEVER the 7Art has no detents for the f-stops if you care. Build quality is impressive.

I believe it is the smallest of the 3, but it is heavy (11.5 oz vs. 4.5 for Oly) and actual focal length is +/-12.8mm (not a true 12mm)
