What causes this problem?

The problem occurs when a user enlarges a window in a multi-monitor setup, but a bar [or white space] appears at the top of the window, and the bar is either not clickable or, if clickable, is on the users desktop and not in the enlarged window.

If the user profile is corrupted in a multi-monitor configuration, blank space may appear at the top of the maximized window. In addition, protected view and hardware acceleration of Office applications can also cause the mentioned error.

The problem has also been reported in server versions of Windows as well as desktop/laptop applications. Sometimes the problem occurs in one or more applications.

How to solve the problem?

Updating the video card drivers via Device Manager

  1. Press Win + X on your keyboard > select Device Manager.
  2. In Device Manager > select Display Adapters > select your video card.
  3. Right-click on your video card and select Update Driver.
  4. In the window that has just opened select Automatically check for updated driver software.

Reload the graphics driver using the following key combination

  1. Press `Ctrl + Shift + Win key + B` on your keyboard to reload the graphics driver.
  2. The screen will blink and you will hear a sound confirming that the boot process is complete.
  3. After completing this process, check to see if the problem persists.

Updating the Windows 10 operating system

  1. Click on Start > Settings [cogwheel].
  2. In the Settings window, scroll down and select Update and security.
  3. Click Check for updates and wait for the process to complete.
