Turns on, I hear the fan, then shuts down
Hi.
After not using my laptop for several months, Ive charged it up overnight and now when I turn it on, I hear the fan and then it shuts off.
Nothing on the screen except press F2 to enter start up, which I tried but it shut down.
No chance to do anything. Its all very quick
Is this a good question?

Power down, unplug the device and remove the battery.
Now hold down the power button for 30 seconds. Plug in the charger, without battery, and see if it works. If it works then install battery. Does it still work?
This may help removing battery:

Let see what else. . . .
- What do the lights do? What colour is the charger light, does it blink? Etc. Does the drive light come on?
- Battery out and charger disconnected, as always before going inside.
- Reseat the RAM by taking out and re-inserting. If two try one and then the other in each slot.
- Disconnect hard drive.
- Disconnect CMOS battery - look at 4:17 of the video to see the CMOS coin battery on the bottom left. Take it out for
This may help with tear down:

If you need more directions just ask.
You know if it worked before it is likely nothing serious for it to not to work - unless something unusual was happening before you stored it????

Comments:
Thank you but it didn't work. No change in start up, fan or cutting out :-[

Hi Mike
Thanks for trying to help.
The blue light with the CD's stacked comes on for 1 second then goes out when laptop dies. Fan is the last thing to stop.
The icon with the lightening bolt was orange while charging but is a static blue with cable attached.
I reseated the RAM.
Disconnected the Hard drive but I'm not sure where the CMOS battery is. If it's further into the build, I will get an IT to do it as I've never pulled apart a laptop before and this one has documents I really need :-]
I replaced everything and pressed the power button but no change.

Was working fine when I packed it away as I had my desktop rebuilt.

If it is just your documents you are after that's relatively simple - take the hard drive out. This video shows how:

and connect it inside your desktop. Copy the files over. Done.
Regarding the laptop, take out the CD drive by unscrewing one screw and slide out. This may be the cause of your problem.
