It’s official, the 2023 Toyota Sequoia gets an EPA-estimated 21 mpg in the city, 24 mpg on the highway, and 22 mpg combined. This is quite the upgrade from the outgoing generation. The 2022 Sequoia only gets an EPA-estimated 13 mpg in the city and up to 17 mpg on the highway. 

Not only did its numbers improve, but according to The Car Connection, the Sequoia is the most standard fuel-efficient full-size SUV you can buy. Best of all, it can accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in about 6.0 seconds. 

The 2022 Ford Expedition gets an EPA-estimated 17 mpg in the city and up to 23 mpg on the highway. Also, the Chevy Tahoe receives about 18 mpg combined with its base engine. 

The General Motors 3.0-liter inline-six turbo diesel gets up to 28 mpg combined, but it’s an expensive upgrade. Plus, it’s more costly at the pumps. 

Adding 4×4 to the Sequioa reduces the fuel economy by about two miles per gallon. 4WD costs about $3,000 to add. 

Is the Sequoia good for towing?  

Yes, it is. The 2023 Toyota Sequoia comes with the I-FORCE Max 3.4-liter V6 engine and an electric motor that cranks out 437 hp and 583 lb-ft of torque.

When properly equipped, the Toyota Sequoia can tow up to 9,520 lbs and carry a payload of up to 1,730 lbs. The 2022 model can tow up to 7,000 lbs and carry a payload of up to 1,370 lbs. 

The 2022 Chevy Tahoe can tow up to 8,400 lbs and carry a payload of up to 1,927 lbs, so it has a slightly higher payload. With the 2022 Ford Expedition, you can tow up to 9,300 lbs and carry a payload of up to 1,758 lbs. 

The Expedition used to have the best-in-class towing figure, but now the Sequoia gets the crown. Also, the Sequoia provides up to 22.3 cubic feet of cargo space behind the rear seats and 86.9 cubes total.
