Mary lou the balm highlighter review năm 2024

Introducing the Lou Manizer Squad, the adorable four pan highlight palette from the The Balm Cosmetics. This quad contains four beautiful lady-Lou highlights banding together to form one unstoppable squad. This palette caught my attention while I was browsing the makeup section at Winners. Luckily, I scored this palette for only $16.99 CAD. Let’s find out how this fearsome, foursome performs.

The Balm Cosmetics describes the Lou Manizer Quad as “Mary-Lou and Cindy-Lou have joined forces with their long lost cousins, Penny-Lou and Emma-Lou (available for the first time, exclusively in this quad), to form the most wanted palette of the century, The Lou-Manizer’sQuad“.

Shades

Mary-Lou Manizer – honey champagne highlighter. This is my first time using Mary-Lou and I gotta say – she’s an icon for a reason. The dewy glow Mary-Lou adds to my complexion is marvellous. Mary-Lou’s honey hue just gleams on my face in the most beautiful way. The texture is smooth and application was great.

Cindy-Lou Manizer – rose gold highlighter. This highlight is flawless! I love the rose tint Cindy-Lou gives my cheeks. Cindy-Lou melts into my skin effortlessly, easily blending in with my blush creating a perfect healthy glow. Cindy-Lou is a perfect blush topper as well as I pretty highlighter.

Emma-Lou Manizer – lilac highlighter. I loved Emma-Lou! I’m a big fan of purple/lilac hued highlights. A Purple tinted highlighter won’t be for everyone but the quality is fantastic. Emma-Lou glided onto my skin like a breeze.

Penny-Lou Manizer – golden-hued highlighter. Penny-Lou was my least favourite highlight in the palette. Penny-Lou’s formula is different from the other three shades. Despite being pigmented, Penny-Lou was very glittery and difficult to blend out. In addition Penny-Lou enhanced the texture in my skin, highlighting pores and she left a yellow brick road of glitter on my face (not the look I was going for).

Mary-Lou, Cindy-Lou and Emma-Lou all have buildable pigmentation. Upon first application, all three highlighters needed some extra help. Personally, I prefer products that blend well and can be built up so I have more control over how much product ends up on my face. I could easily get the desired intensity out of these highlights. Mary-Lou, Cindy-Lou and Emma- Lou all looked great on my skin and lasted 5+ hours before fading a bit.

Penny-Lou was the only miss in the palette. As I mentioned earlier Penny-Lou seems to be a different formula from the other three highlights. Penny-Lou is more pigmented but the excess glitter and texture aren’t what I want in a highlighter. Penny-Lou would be better used as an eyeshadow in my opinion.

Packaging

The Balm never disappoints in the packaging department. The Lou Manizer Squad is housed in a small, compact palette with a cardboard cover that slides off. The concept of the packaging is adorable. Each Lou Manizer is pictured on the outer cover and the palette itself. In usual Balm fashion, extra details are added to the packaging to create a narrative. Each Lou Manizer is given a cute, individual moniker eluding to what their criminal skill set is. Though, it seems the Lumanizers have been arrested because they appear to be having mugshots taken. Hopefully, their on point highlight can help them get outta jail.

Thoughts

This palette is so cute. I love how each highlighter is personified. No other cosmetics company puts as much thought into the concepts behind their palettes as The Balm does. The Mary-Lou and Cind-Loy Manizers have been around for several years so it was nice to get to test out some cult products that I had never used. At the same time, the Penny-Lou and Emma-Lou Manizer are new and exclusive to this palette, so the Squad isn’t a repackaging of old or existing products in the The Balm’s line.

All the highlighters in the palette are multifunctional which is handy. Each Lou can be used as a highlight (obviously), a blush, an eyeshadow topper or a straight up eyeshadow if needed. This palette would be really practical for travel because it can cover almost every eye and face makeup need within the four shades.

I don’t go through highlighters very quickly. A normal Mary-Lou Manizer contains .32 oz of product. The Lou Manizer Squad palette contains .35 oz of product. So, if you’re like me The Lou Manizer Squad is a fun way to test out four highlighters for the price and product amount of one. That’s a good investment from my perspective.

Overall, I’m very happy with my purchase. The Balm Cosmetics never disappoints! I’ve been searching for an alternative to my Kat Von D Alchemist palette and I’m glad to say I found what I was searching for in the Lou Manizers.
