There is some rumor and speculation surrounding the fate of the Dodge Durango. Previously, the Durango shared a platform with the Jeep Grand Cherokee. The Grand Cherokee just entered an all-new generation based on a different platform. If rumors are to be believed, the 2023 Dodge Durango will become a stablemate with the full-size, body-on-frame Jeep Wagoneer rather than the Grand Cherokee.
Since the Wagoneer is an expensive premium SUV, a new Durango on the same platform could be a more affordable rival to the Chevrolet Tahoe and Ford Expedition priced around the $50,000 mark. Another possibility is the Durango could continue sharing a platform with the Grand Cherokee and remain in its place as a midsize 3-row SUV with a unibody architecture. Another realistic, if a bit boring, possibility is that the 2023 Durango will be a carryover model with few changes at all.

The pricing of the 2023 Dodge Durango depends on the for-now unknown future of this SUV. If it remains a midsize 3-row unibody SUV, it will probably start at about $36,000. If it evolves into a full-size, body-on-frame SUV, it will probably start closer to $50,000, competing with the Chevrolet Tahoe and Ford Expedition.

The 2021 Dodge Durango SRT HELLCAT,
made its debut as the most powerful internal combustion engine [ICE]-powered SUV ever. Thanks to its supercharged 6.2-liter HELLCAT HEMI® V8 and quick-shifting 8HP95 8-speed TorqueFlite automatic transmission, the three-row SUV put down some amazing performance numbers [0 to 60 mph in 3.5 seconds, 1/4-mile time of 11.5 seconds, and a top speed of 180 mph. Originally announced for a single model year, demand was so strong that Dodge ended up adding an additional 1,000 units to its original production run of 2,000 units.
Then in August at the brand’s “Speed Week” event, Dodge CEO, Tim Kuniskis unveiled that the Durango SRT HELLCAT would be back for 2023. The announcement was short and sweet, and other than saying it would return for 2023 with the same power rating no additional information was given. We were at the event and even asked Kuniskis about how many they were planning on producing, but even that answer was vague.
On Friday, we learned that Dodge had sent its dealers an updated order guide for the 2023 Dodge Durango [WD] lineup. The guide went over all of the new changes for the 2023 model year [most of which we will cover later this week], but most importantly discussed a few details about the 2023 Dodge Durango SRT HELLCAT.
But now thanks to the order guides, we have learned a few new details about the Durango SRT HELLCAT that we can share with you.
For 2023, Dodge has simplified its entire Durango lineup to help fulfill orders faster. This includes the HELLCAT. This means customers will be able to choose from three different packages for the HELLCAT model. And while the order guide doesn’t state the specifics of the packages for HELLCAT, it does for the SRT392 model.
In 2021, the SRT392 and HELLCAT models were optioned identical, so we believe that will be the same going into 2023 too.
The three packages include a HELLCAT [2XV] entry-level package [which is listed as a late-availability], a HELLCAT Plus [2XW] package, and HELLCAT Premium [2XY] package.

Now, when the 2021 model made its debut, it had a U.S. Manufacturer’s Suggested Retail Price [MSRP] starting at $80,995. But that is about to get a lot more expensive for 2023. According to the guide, the starting MSRP for each trim will look like this…

- HELLCAT Premium [2XY] Package starting at $102,085
But also keep in mind, those prices don’t include destination, taxes, title, and other fees. So for those who were able to purchase one in 2021, you can at least be happy you saved some money.
One other thing we have learned about is exterior colors. Many were disappointed at the lack of availability in the color department for the 2022 model. For 2023, Dodge will keep the four colors from 2022, but also add five new colors to the lineup…

Now while much of the Durango lineup will be available for ordering immediately, expect the Durango SRT HELLCAT to be available to order after the new year.
