SAS [phát âm là “Sass”, viết tắt của Statistical Analysis System] là một hệ thống tích hợp các sản phẩm phần mềm cung cấp bởi SAS Institute Inc.
SAS được manh nha hình thành bởi Anthony J. Barr [sinh viên tốt nghiệp North Carolina State] từ năm 1966, đến năm 1968 thì có sự tham gia của James Goodnight. Đến năm 1971, phần mềm này đã phổ biến trong giới học thuật, và được sử dụng trong công nghiệp từ năm 1972. Đến năm 1976, J. Barr, J. Goodnight cùng với John Sall và Jane T. Helwig thành lập SAS Institute. Inc.
SAS được viết bằng C, chạy trên các hệ điều hành: Winhdows, IBM mainframe, Unix/Linux, OpenVMS Alpha.
SAS cho phép thực hiện:
* Nhập, truy cập, quản lý và khai thác dữ liệu
* Xuất báo cáo bằng văn bản và đồ họa
* Phân tích thống kê
* Lập kế hoạch kinh doanh, dự báo, và ra quyết định hỗ trợ
