Welcome to the Class of 2023 website! We will us this site to share resources and keep you up-to-date with information from now until graduation.

The link below is a list of scholarships that our students have been awarded in the past, are sent directly to Mrs. Chandler, are local and La Cueva specific scholarships. Keep in mind some scholarships have very few people apply. Applying for these scholarships are not a guarantee but if you are awarded money, it is free money to help pay for school. 

Other dates will also be listed on this document, including La Cueva meetings, college fairs and other events that seniors may be interested in.

Senior yearbook ads are the pages in the yearbook that have special messages from families and friends of seniors along with pictures of the Senior. These are optional and ad sales go through February 27, 2023 with a discount available before 12:00am December 2, 2022.

Yearbook can also be ordered with a discount before 12:00 am January 1, 2023.

NOTE: This is the last scheduled day we have for La Cueva Seniors to have their Yearbook pictures taken.  If their picture is not taken they will NOT appear in the Yearbook.

Below is a copy of the Paying for College presentation Mrs. Chandler presented on 9/26/22. The FAFSA application (financial aid) will open up on October 1st. If you need help completing it, you can set up a meeting to meet with Mrs. Chandler via her website! There is also help on Monday nights through the New Mexico Education Assistance Foundation via zoom where you can talk one on one with financial aid professionals from New Mexico colleges. These events are known as Monday Mondays and the schedule and link to join can be found on the NMEAF website.

Seven scholarships will be awarded to students in the amount of $1,000 each.

A student must be a senior who is graduating in May 2023 from an Albuquerque Public Schools traditional or magnet high school and planning to pursue post-secondary education in the fall of 2023.

To enter the scholarship drawing, students will submit documentation electronically for the activities listed below that they have completed. They will do this by completing the APS Foundation Varsity Scholarship Entry Form and uploading documentation of completion

A student’s name can be entered once for each category listed below that they complete. There are ten (10) categories which means a student who completes each item will receive up to 10 entries

1. Apply to a 2- or 4-year college or university, trade school, certification or apprenticeship program

2. Complete your FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid), CSS Profile (College Scholarship Service) Profile through College Board or if you are not eligible to fill out the FAFSA, you can complete a school-based financial aid form

3. Participate in a college or university visit with a tour (it can be virtual); you can also attend an online information session; you can also contact a recruiter directly or a member of admissions for more information

4. Complete a Career Assessment through online programs such as YouScience, My Next Move,  or NM Career Solutions (click on Work Interests Assessment)

5. Plan to take and complete an AP test your senior year

6. Participate in a job shadow, internship/mentorship, or pre-apprenticeship program

7. Pass a Dual Credit Class with a “C” or above

8. Take an ACT, SAT or ACCUPLACER Practice Test

9. Set up a Career Solutions Student account at www.nmcareersolutions.com and complete the “Why I Work” Financial Tool Activity (under the Career Exploration Tab).

10. Apply for a scholarship (other than this one)

The deadline to apply is March 31, 2023

One of the primary ways we communicate with Seniors is through Remind.com. We have set up the Class of 2023 Remind and have started sending important reminders out through this account. Parents and students can sign up to receive messages by following the instructions below.  We do not see your phone number or email address and the messages will be relevant to the senior year (college visits, application deadlines, presentation reminders, scholarship lists, etc.)

In most cases, these students were born in 2005. Set to graduate in 2023, your class will have four full high school years to benefit from the new programs at College Planning TODAY Services. You are now beginning to wrap up your sophomore year ..

When should I apply for fall 2023?

Most applications will open August 1 for students applying for fall 2023 enrollment. College deadlines most often fall between November and February. Early admission means submitting your application sooner, usually by November. Applying regular decision gives you more time to work on application essays and take exams.
