This page offers tips and tricks focused on mechanics and systems that Player Unknown's Battlegrounds either doesn't explain at all, or doesn't explain well.

The Basics ()

While most users are able to pick up on the basic gameplay loop fairly quickly, Battlegrounds doesn't offer any tutorial - for those of you just jumping in, here's what you need to know:

  • There are between 60 and 100 players in each game.
  • Last player alive wins.
  • After you eject from the drop plane, you will have to make your way into a gradually shrinking play area - marked on your map by the white circle.
  • Fail to enter the designated play area before the countdown timer ends, and you risk being caught outside a radiation barrier. This will cause damage over time, which increases as the game goes on.

Got it? Good. Now, onto more intricate details...

Directional Audio

Incoming sound direction is determined by the direction your camera is facing, not your character.

Boost Mode

Vehicles - boats and cars alike - have a boost function. Press and hold the Sprint key (default: LShift) to activate the vehicle's boosters.

Your Trusty Frying Pan

While the Machete may do more damage and the sickle looks really cool, the best melee item you can find is actually the Pan. Not only does it pack a whollop, but when holstered across your lower back it can actually deflect small-caliber bullets!

Armor Expands Inventory

In addition to giving you extra protection against incoming fire, armor also boosts your inventory. Each vest, no matter the level, increases your inventory capacity by 50 points.

Drive-By Shooting

If you're playing as part of a team, or have merely forged a fragile alliance with another player, and are in a vehicle, whoever is in the passenger seat(s) can shoot from the window by using the aim button (default: Hold RMB).

Line-of-Fire Interference

If you are aiming and notice a red circle appear near or around your aiming reticule, this is indicating that there is an object blocking your weapon, such as a door, tree, crate or other piece of cover you may be using.

Fast-Running

Running with a gun out is always important since a gunfight can happen at any moment. However, sometimes you may be in dire need of clearing some major distance and having your gun out can slow you down. Holstering your weapon can end up giving you those split seconds that determine life or death. You can perform this action by pressing "X" on your keyboard or holding "Y" on your xbox one controller. You will notice a small but important increase in your running speed. Use this at your own risk! There will be other players looking out for people like you running into the safe zone.

If you're with a partner, communicate. If he has no mic and he's a random, you're going to have a bad time.

Learn the weapons, find the ones you're good with and stick with them.

Get good at killing at long-range. Or killing people while they're in a moving vehicle.

Listen. Closely. Always. Footsteps, cars in the distance. Learn to estimate their distance and their location.

Use the right weapons at the right time. Don't use shotguns at mid-range and don't use automatic weapons at mid to long-range.
