Unlike other websites and magazines, our ratings are not based solely on a singular road test, but rather a more encompassing batch of criteria: quality, safety, comfort, performance, fuel economy, reliability history and value. When comparing vehicles using our Rating System, it's important to note that the rating earned by each vehicle correlates only to the models within its class. For example, a compact car cannot be compared to a SUV—They are different vehicles altogether.

You can interpret our ratings in the following way:

5-Star: Outstanding vehicle. Only the most exceptional vehicles achieve this rating.

4-Star: Very Good vehicle. Very good and close to being the best vehicle in its class.

3-Star: Good vehicle. Decent, but not quite the best. Often affordable, but lacking key features found in vehicles of the same class.

2-Star: Below average vehicle. Not recommended, and lacking attributes a car buyer would come to expect for the price.

1-Star: Poor vehicle. Simply does not deserve to be on the road.

With the introduction of the 2023 Tahoe RST Performance Edition, Chevrolet's most well-liked full-size SUV has received specific performance tuning. This special edition four-wheel-drive Tahoe is ready to dazzle performance fans who still want to cruise around town in a full-size SUV. It has more power and speed than ever before for retail customers.

According to Scott Bell, vice president of Chevrolet, “Chevrolet built the 2023 Tahoe RST Performance Edition for consumers who desire the best of both worlds. The everyday comfort and capability of a full-size SUV together with the driving pleasure of a real performance vehicle.”

Chevy leveraged pursuit-rated police vehicle kits and their performance in racing to give customers a secure and enjoyable driving experience.

In reality, the new Tahoe RST Performance Edition makes use of several components from the Tahoe PPV package. These are the chassis, suspension, and other components, rated for pursuit use. The same engineering team also calibrated many of the vehicle's dynamics in this package.

Let’s take a look at the interior of the 2023 Chevrolet Tahoe RST Performance Edition.

The Luxury Package Is Standard For The Tahoe RST Performance Edition

The Luxury Package offers comfort features — heated and power-operated door mirrors and a heated steering wheel are just a few. There are also heated and power-operated second-row seats. Additionally, power split-folding third-row seats and memory settings for the seats, tiller, and side mirrors are there as well.

This package also contains modern safety technologies such as lane keeping assist, lane departure warning, and rear cross-traffic alert. More features include the front and rear parking assist, an HD surround-view camera, etc.

The Full-Size SUV Has A Roomy And Comfortable Interior

Compared to smaller, mid-size SUVs, the full-size Tahoe's cabin has what feels like acres of space. There are typically three rows of seats. The second row's seats can slide forward and backward to give passengers flexibility and allow adults to sit comfortably way back in the Tahoe.

Because of its independent rear suspension, the Tahoe's interior packaging also offers a low, flat load floor. When one folds the second and third seats, the cargo space expands to 123 cubic feet. And behind the third row, passengers can squeeze up to six carry-on suitcases.

Chevy replaced the old column shifter with a preferable push-button and slider system. However, the motorized, retractable center console lid appears gimmicky, especially given that the control switch is on the roof. Fortunately, the ergonomics within the rest of the Tahoe are better.

The 2023 Performance Edition Has The Right Amount Of Tech In Its Cabin For Eventful Family Road Trips

Road trips with pacified passengers translate into enjoyable ones, and the Tahoe's strong connectivity and infotainment options help to ensure that translation. The Tahoe RST Performance Edition comes with a 10.2-inch touchscreen that supports Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and a Wi-Fi hotspot.

In addition to its many interior charging points, the three-row Chevy includes an optional Bose music system. An available rear-seat entertainment system with two 12.6-inch displays can also be conveniently located behind the front seats.

The Tahoe RST’s Exterior Compliments It’s Plush Interior

The 2023 Tahoe has attractive lines that combine retro-inspired angles with futuristic features like headlamps that appear buried.

Chevy mounts the LED headlights above a tall, razor-sharp grille, which, depending on the trim level, can be various tones of chrome or black. The Tahoe has a bigger C-pillar behind the back doors and some Coke bottle curves on its flanks. This helps it appear less boxy and more traditional from the side than some of its predecessors.

The Reason It Is A Performance Edition

The 2023 Tahoe RST Performance Edition combines numerous terms you'd never expect to hear in connection with a full-size body-on-frame SUV. It is a motorsports-inspired and pursuit-rated car that makes a claim to be the fastest retail Tahoe ever made.

The most notable changes include a Chevrolet Performance induction and exhaust system. This Tahoe produces 13 more horsepower and 7 more pound-feet of torque than the RST, for a total of 433 horsepower and 467 lb-ft. The ten-speed automatic transmission that comes standard transfers power to the wheels.

This produces a top speed of 124 mph, a quarter-mile pace of 14.2 seconds at 97 mph, and a speedy 0-60 mph time of only 5.78 seconds.

However, while the 7,600-lb towing capacity remains the same, performance does not come at the expense of capabilities.

Chevrolet has also paid attention to the handling and stopping capability of this limited edition SUV. Installing high-performance handling parts improves the handling of this SUV, the majority of which are directly from the PPV police pursuit package. Police-spec springs, retuned dampers, a larger-diameter stabilizer bar, and police-spec chassis calibrations are standard on all 2023 Tahoe RST Performance Editions. These chassis modifications lower the Tahoe by 0.4 inches in front and 0.8 inches in back. Brembo brakes with distinctive Torch Red calipers pressing down on roughly 25% bigger front discs slow down the RST Performance Edition from 60-0 mph in under 133 feet.
